Default South African GT's found in bulk

Hey guys and gals,
I heard a rumour today that a few months ago, some guy in South Africa who had a few hundred acres had stored 30 odd GT's in a shed and just kept them, but had passed away.
The family was left to sell off the estate.
Apparently they tendered the whole lot of GT's to the highest bidder and they ended up in Perth about a month ago....
Anyone else heard it or can confirm te rumour ???

Was a few years ago and was just part of a large collection. While it is a very nice collection there was no 'Barn Find' story ...... just someone deciding to sell and yes .... some did get to Perth.

Hows the orange one! Side stripe eay too short at the front, bonnet stripes way out of whack and then there's the pop up sunroof. God, the 80's have a lot to answer for!

Just a question on the Monaro, is it just my eyes, the pic, or does it have XA style indicators? Just on that corner it looks a tad ZF.

I'm a Customs broker and Customs / Quarantine cleared all of those cars, I have pics when they where in my depot. It was about 3 1/2 yrs ago, all but 2 where from a private collection, the Monaro & the white GT's, it has a dent in the right rear where the owner lost it

A few notes on the Chev, from Wiki:

HT series Monaros were assembled in South Africa from imported parts by
General Motors South African (GMSA) at the Port Elizabeth assembly plant.
Later the HG series Monaro was assembled and sold in South Africa badged as
the Chevrolet SS. At this time GMSA had made a decision to market most of its
products as Chevrolets. The Chevrolet SS had revised front styling unique to
that model, incorporating four headlights and large turn indicators in the front
edge of the fenders above the bumper. The Holden Monaro and Chevrolet SS
models were both available with Holden 308 in3 (5.0L) and the Chevrolet 350
in3 (5.7 L) engines. South African sales totalled 1828 Monaros and 1182 SS
models.

That Monaros really cool. I like it and i'd probably take it over one of the GTs due it its uniqueness

Those SS versions look cool as..

You can see with the diffrences to those Fairmont GT's that South Africa really suffered not having a repo market or much of a spare parts supply..
As they were fixed up over the years, many obviously got fixed from memory or got improvised stripes and stickers and bits etc, because there wasnt the parts or knowledge over there that the massive following of our local ones have had virtually all their lives, coupled with the internet later on.

They recon out of the 1500 odd made for export that maybe 300 at the most still survive today..

Pretty close car, is same colour and trim as mine, but mines Factory manual and Factory NON vinyl roof (non grand-pa spec thank god )..
299k rand is around 36.5k Aus, add import costs on top, which vary from 5k upto 10k plus...
Also costs seem to vary if you aquire any addon issues here like re cleaning, time on dock etc that the Import authorities/warfies seem to like to add on..

Don't worry mate.
The vinyl roof had severe sunburn.... but absolutely no rust under it.
paint had severe cracking/sunburn i call it... sorry about the lack of terminology!

If I recall, about 10 came over with about 2 Monaros. All came into Perth, and were to be sold off, but with the GFC etc, not all of them went straight away.
Not sure if they still have any left though.
I can tell you that the Guy was TD, but if I tell you any more, I'd have to kill ya's!
