Default 3inch exhaust .How to make it quieter ?

This exhaust is driving me nuts!! It gets looks from all the car fanatics as I drive along and by the end of the day my ears hurt!! Is there any way to quieten this system down without killing power?

Add a small resonator or hot dog. Or go back to a sensible 2.5"

i reckon the hot dog makes em a bit louder , an exhaust shop should be able to tell you what muffler/reasonator will bring the db down without losing the 3" system

I cant believe there are still people out there telling us that 3 inch is silly. Must be hard being a sceptic and not doing research before butting in with a smart alec comment now and again.
I dont find mine much louder than the 2.5 when driving normal but its a different thing when I get up it a bit, say over 3500rpm. In saying that though, I find cars with IRS (Blackers10's fairlan, and a couple other members cars) with the same set up as mine, but in 2.5 inch, are just as loud.
I run 3 inch cat, Pacie comps, and a single 3 inch straight through muffler, no res.

3inch is to big for a 6 IMO.....No growl.

I would put on a 2.5" Pipe with a Lukey Turbo Muffler in the middle and a small hotdog at the back, it will give you a very nice note and the small hotdog at the back will cut drone and make it quieter but still give it a real nice note It will rumble

As far as power goes it was just as good a decision as the cam. The sound is not like a farting pig at all. It is savage ,intimidating and actually sounds better than any v8 I have ever heard bar the cleveland v8's . It sounds awesome!!At idle you can hear the lumpiness of my cam. Guys with ba -bf gt's do slow down to look at the wagon since doing it because they don't sound half as good and they worry that it is quicker than theirs. They think the wagon might munch them.(if it had a turbo) The wrx and nissan boys look worried when I drive by but the only drawback is the level of sound . If I can keep the growl but a little quieter it would be perfect.

You are entitled to your opinion but your opinion has been proven wrong.Sorry mate. I had a 2.5 inch lukey and the difference is huge.

The other factor is noise and canary stickers known as defects down here are one thing I dont need .The other is that it is way louder than my 2.5 inch lukey system. Maybe an extra muffler will make it more civilised.. Just wondered what people hae got on their 3 inch systems when I posted. If people want to make decisions on things they havent tried or dont know about then that is fine then tick s in the ballot box for slow.(car)

I beg to differ on that statemant. They are one of the nicest sounding V8's with a exhaust and are quicker than people say.

But in your question it is mufflers that quieten exhaust sound down if its droning to much for daily use I would get your exhaust bloke to work out what would suit your needs. They fit and hear and sometimes receive feed back on performance exhaust systems.

If you bothered to do any research at all, and pulled your head out of your crack, youd realise that three inch is a great option for the 6. OED666 runs 13.8 - 3 inch
XTC is a BA with twin 2.25's - 14.4's
I ran 15.379 with 2.5, 14.97 with 3 inch.
If you cant be bothered to do any of your own research dont bother giving your opinion.

i have a 3" on my v8 auto. a couple of exhaust shops told me that 3" was too big for an auto and that it would drone.
I ended up with a 3" mandrel bent manta system - has 2 mufflers so no droning, they're both straight through so they don't kill power, its quiet at cruise and idle but still loud enough to be heard and sounds awesome at WOT...
so my advice - chuck an extra straight through muffler on there. as for the people who say the hotdog makes them louder - have a think about it - its not possible.
A hotdog is designed as a resonator - to change the note and hopefully reduce droning (resonance) but doesn't really make it any quieter...

If you replace a muffler with a hotdog it will be louder, if you ad a hotdog to a system it will reduce noise.

Hey, you guys with the 3'' exhust how do you run your extractors, do you cut it back and flange it in 3'' or leave it and run 2.5'' to 3'' adapter?

3" is too big for a daily six. It may be quicker over the quarter, but I bet it's losing torque down low and through mid range. Just because it's faster, doesn't mean it's better.

Stav - just throw another 3" straight through 15 or 18" long muffler into the centre section , or a small 3" resonator about 12" long at the rear. You can also try a hotdog just after the cat which should change the note down a bit without affecting power (too much). Any of these options will muffle the noise without compromising power too much, but each one is louder than the one before (ie 15" muffler would quiten more than a hot dog). Good luck with your choice! Me - I'd go the extra 15" long muffler in the centre section.

You make me laugh Monty with your research banter.
The fact you were faster with your 3" doesn't comfirm it's just that, probably better launch contributed to the better time more likely, better atmo at the time and a poofteenth exhaust.
As long as your happy thats all that matters don't need to belittle other's comments sheeesh.

Change your center muffler for a chambered 15 to 18 inch center offset muffler and weld in a hotdog in the rear section.

2 1/2 in the best size for Falcon I6 for torque and power gains throughout the rev range, but if you budget doesnt allow this just do as mentioned above and this will fix your droning and in cabin boom.
