Default Australia's most powerful ute!

I know this is a speculative article but would a straight-six diesel producing a punchy 205kW and 588Nm, be enough to convert Hilux and Ranger owners?

Same engine as in Genesis GV80.

I've driven it, very very nice mill.

The front of that ute is the Palisade, only diesel currently is the 2.2L they use in everything else.

This could pave the way for a N Series Palisade with the 3L diesel.

If Kia put a tray on the Telluride and use the same 3L donk it should sell well.

Geeze, last diesel they will develop. :(

Feels like 1998 again with our amazing 185kw v8's. In fairness these new utes have come a very long way.

That diesel would out perform the v6 twin turbo in a ute, and use a fraction of the fuel so why would you do that?

Only thanks to a newly introduced ABN tax incentives introduced around the same time these dual cab utes started appearing.

Lets take that incentive away and see the real figures.

looks like the journo's Headline "Australia's most powerful ute!" has taken the bait with a few.

thing is the twin cab is is not what the Aussie Ute was, but its no truck either.

IMO its turned into a vehicle that can transport the family, go on weekenders can tow and can also be practical as a work vehicle and thus gets the ABN incentives

a Maloo or FPV may have been a lot quicker but it has more in common with a 2 door sports car, and sold about as well.

in comparison twin cabs sell very well.

this last stand by the Koreans of a diesel engine, has similar specs to the BMW 30D.
it will be a nice drive

Looks like they copied the fugly Triton, such a woeful design.

Off Topic, but please don't Judge cars by the Moose test.
the drivers can deliberately fail a car, besides that they recon 70% of divers could even do the maneuver and crash anyway.
also:
'Tekniken Varld’s moose tests also says that a Nissan Qashqai (84 km/h) is better at avoiding obstacles than a 991 generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS and a McLaren 570S, both did only 81 km/h.'

https://www.wapcar.my/news/why-toyot...elieve-it-2846.

Bottom line if a moose steps out in front of you on a country road where you are travelling above 80kph any way. you will crash if you try and swerve like they do in the test.

No it wouldn't. 270 and 530 vs 205 and 588, and would be lighter weight. It would easily outperform the diesel. In acceleration terms anyway. Or are you referring to other areas, such as towing?

The thing doesn't even exist, so the headline is a joke anyway. Especially considering the Silverado and Ram are already available here, and are more powerful. So even if it did exist, the headline would still be 100% false.

Stinger has an incredible engine but is 510Nm not 530Nm I believe the 588 in the diesel would be enough to make the heavier ute quicker.

yes headline is a joke, but I stated that. you are first to point out the American options

Power is more important in a drag race than torque. The petrol engine would out accelerate the heavier diesel, with a narrower powerband.

And it's not like the turbo petrol suffers from a lack of low down torque either. It peaks at something like 1800 rpm.

Pretty sure the intention was just to compare the diesel utes. TBH I didnt even think of Ram.

The Silverado diesel V8 makes more than 205 kw anyway. So even that is irrelevant.
