Default Car Crushed by Police in L.A.

Just found this on the Street Fords website. Don't know if it has been posted before. The police in L.A. are crushing the cars of illegal street racers caught in the act. Would certainly make you think twice before doing something stupid. The Canadians are also bringing in the same law there. It's only a mater of time before they decide to do it here. They seem to do everything else what the Americans do. Eventually.

You would at least think they would strip them of the good bits and flog them off first....

Oh well, less fast 'n' furious wannabe ricers to worry about.

is that all of them or just the Honda pile, while i agree it is a good idea to deter street racing, i think the laws and punishments we have in place (re: confiscating cars) are sufficient

Fantastic initiative. Australia is a weak country that punishes the people that do the right thing while the inconsiderate louts that do the wrong thing are hit over the knuckles with a wet lettuce leaf.

Bring on the crusher!

Hmmm, seems you'll be ok if you don't drive a Honda lol.

Seems stupid to crush them though, they should auction them and give all proceeds to charity instead.

I dont see anything nice in that pile. but what happens when some dude decides to give his classic ferrari some extra oomph to show the ricer next to him a thing or two, only to be caught by an undercover cop.

I didnt read the article lazy me, so pls bash me if it already covered that. :P

Bah, what good bits?

They’re only ricers. Let’s face it. They’ll eventually end up bent anyway. At least this way no innocent motorists get hurt in the process.

Now all they need to do is find the people that thought of The fast and the furious and handcuff them to the steering wheels of the next batch due to be crushed.

Thats a great idea, but why crush them? They could at least do something constructive with them.

Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose?

Chances are the people that buy these sorts of cars from a police auction will probably go out and do exactly what they were impounded for in the first place.

Seems more sensible than confiscating the car... then in turn selling the thing to another boy racer at auction.

Plus consider the LA perspective... more cars off the road, the better.

Ok, so instead of raising revenue by being tight arsed on fines, they should sell off all the nice bits from these cars, crush the rest, equip the nice bits with tracking devices (/w Speedos) and follow them directly to the hoons, impound their cars, sell of the nice bits again, crush and repeat.

I agree with it. I think the purpose of it is to show these guys that if their little pride and joy that they've spent god knows how much money on is confiscated for illegal drag racing, it's not coming back. While it would be nice to be able to gain some money to give to charity from them, I think that it would give these guys the knowledge that their car is still alive. Nothing harder than watching something you've spent so much time and money on destroyed in front of you.

That's what I like to see, being proactive in getting rid of them !! When in LA I didn't see a whole lot of ricers.. maybe it's already working !

The only problem about implementing this in Australia would be Government's like the Victorian Gov. I can see it now. Some poor sod slips over the posted limit by 10kph, next thing he sees is his car crushed to a pulp.

What a bout company cars and the like???

And what exactly constitutes "hooning"?

seems like a really stupid idea - they could as mentioned earlier, auction them, strip them for parts, its such a waste. Sell them off and give the money to hospitals and road trauma cases

What about the guys who own decent car's, how many would be willing to take off so the cop's dont catch them and crush their cars. This will put even more lives in danger as they will be taking bigger risks to elude police as they now have more to loose.

I would fully not let a cop just take and crush my car - and i'm an easy going normal guy, wonder what will happen when they try doing it to druggos and thugs. I hope we don't get the crusher, cause although i'm sensible 99% of the time, the off chance that i be a ******** will be when i get my pride and joy crushed.

Doesn't this just encourage people to go and steal a car to race with?

While it adds theft to the potential charge sheet the concept of actions and consequenses doesn't seem to enter these people's minds.

Sure gets people talking though doesn't it.

OK Crazy Idea - All impounded cars owners are invited to a smash up derby - Last car running is declared the winner and gets to keep (whats left of) their car, losers cars get crushed.

Man, that would pull a crowd wouldn't it? Watching a bunch of VN's take on the ricers only to see an XF win...

Exactly, if people have spent massive amounts of time/money on their cars as if they will just give up and let it be crushed

Exactly, it's all fun and games when we see these "Ricers" being crushed, ha...ha...ha... but what about for example those pics we had earlier this year of the GT-HO PH3 on the nullabor off the clock?

Would we be laughing when that got crushed, after they used those pics as evidence?

No, ricer or not they mean alot to the owners as much as our overweight barge *** falcons mean to us, sure go with the claims of "Bring on the Crusher" but you won't be laughing when good old bracksy brings the Hoon legislation down to 20km/h and your car is in the crusher :

How much rope do we want to give the polititions, because at the end of the day the only people they are hanging is us.
