Default AU tuning

After trying unsuccessfully to tune my S3 XR8 with an SCT box, I am looking at other options. I have found a crowd that does VCM tuning, mainly holdens, but they have tuned some pretty good B series turbos and 8s too.
Question is, can the AUs be tuned with the VCM software too, we plugged into it today and there was no communication, but that could be the same issue as with the SCT. BUT am i barking up the wrong tree with the VCM stuff? The tuner said he wasn't sure about AUs, probably not, but i thought i have read on here that a few people has done it.

Comments welcome

Id just try a different tuner, I havent heard of a car not being able to be tuned with the Xcal3.
The only problems there could be, would be if an erronr code flashes up, meaning its not been wiped properly, ECU failure, locked to another car etc.

no other tuners in Christchurch and there were no errors, only communication failure came up. Ford have no problem scanning it. it is also the 3rd ECU after two previous were stuffed by an xcal 2. 3 different xcal 3 tried, same result.
