Play the ball not the man. You mentioned UN are turning a blind eye. I'm just pointing out that they are not, and veto or no veto, it seems to have very little power to make nations act in a certain way. All they can do is call it out. Australia has no right of veto, they get called out, yet nothing can realistically be done. One of the purpose of the UN is ""to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character."" Note, international does not mean "America and its allies". The media paints a picture of "the world" against China...but this is the inconvenient truth. (is this being an apologist?)

https://www.axios.com/countries-supp...f01a46a7c.html

This is what is frightening about where our society is headed. The media is intense. It has now come to a stage where, merely stating something (like fact) that doesn't slag off China becomes a "oh you support human rights abuse".

A few months ago we were hearing "oh we don't have a problem with chinese people, its the CCP government.". Now we are hearing "send those bloody students back, they are spies and they are stealing our IP" . I've even heard someone say "hey, we need to start boycotting chinese people" Okayyyyy
Have you not seen how many college professors have been arrested recently for taking bribes from china, and sending research documents directly into the hands of ccp officials? It’s becoming quite widespread now. They have widely infiltrated the us college research system.

But nah, china can do no wrong, and we should apologise for them.

I'd welcome HK refugees into Melbourne in large numbers:

A) They tend to be educated
B) They share Western values
C) They mostly speak English
D) They hate Beijing/CCP

Rather have a tonne of Hong Kongers over Sudos/Somalis any day of the week.

If you're going to take in refugees, Hong Kongers are the perfect fit for our society.

UK offering citizenship to the hong kong people. Good move.

I’d love to know if the uk/china handover agreement had any type of enforcement/penalty for not following the rules of the deal? Could the UK ever take hong back because china shat all over the rules of the agreement?

UK doesn't have the gonads to do so, I doubt any other government would do so either.

Pretty standard practice whenever a consulate(of any nation) is to be closed. Shred & burn all the paperwork that contains sensitive info.

There's a lot to be said for having a paper copy locked away in a consulate - rather than an electronic copy stored in what you think is an unhackable system...

I think the chinese would know that better than anyone else, considering the amount of state sponsored hacking they do.

The CCP will stop at nothing to get what they want. The China 2050 plan is not just a thought bubble, it's a plan for global domination.

You seriously think they want to invade and take over the whole world by 2050? I can believe they want influence......who doesn't?

Actually so far Pompeo have said it's due to spying and IP theft, nothing about subversion. These activities are not new, and happens with other goverments. Snowden leaks revealed that 50% of US consular staff working in HK are employed by the CIA. So whats new? Reality is that dealing with spies is part of doing business. We do it too. It's called ASIO. The problem with the chinese is there is no name for them!

But subversion would deserve eviction.

Its the internet but heres one true fact from article so far. For them (USA) to give the Houston Embassy the boot it must be something concrete.

No not invade. But sink their claws into most foreign countries as a way to control them. They want to be the worlds no 1 superpower, and have everything on their terms. Don’t even need to invade anyone. Open your eyes and do some research into their future plans and methods they are using to achieve them.

They are dangerous. Sure the americans are dodgy too, but they have checks and balances. Winnie the poo reports to no one and cannot be voted out, so he has free reign, and kill squads to crush any dissidents.

i don,t know if this has been posted yet, i,ve been watching "cross roads with Joshua Philipp", amongst other stuff, for quiet sometime. Joshua is an award-winning investigative reporter with The Epoch Times, in my eyes he has credibility. at this time he mainly cover china vs world current events.
with many smuggled out films of chinese internal current events, this includes atrocities, ccp goals, world wide infiltration methods, infiltration into social media, bloggs, forums , it goes on. i had no idea of the scope of the it and how communism is so evil. well, thats my rant , enjoy.

Is this a trick question? Democracy. But see how crazy it is that, when someone challenges the status quo, this question even get raised? Do you now view every chinese looking person with suspicion.

I'll tell you what I don't believe. I don't believe we should advocate killing people or destroying countries that have different idealogy to ours. It stinks of supremacy.

Tell me, what is the end game here? To remove Xi from power? He will just be replaced. To kill all 92m members of the party? Total annihilation of the Chinese people? When I woke up in 2018 we were having good relations with them, they were doing things that they are doing today, no more no less, but we managed the risks.

Also, did you read the Australian Citizen Party blog? What did you think?

I believe in that too.

I don't think anyone wants mass deaths.

We live on a finite planet with finite resources. You don't want a pig headed attitude anywhere on either the US side or Asian side.

I say Asian side here because Indonesia has big ambitions too.

Know what I miss the most? eBay purchases from China arriving in 2 weeks in the mail on a regular basis. I want it to go back to that state too but the US economy and the Australian economy are both being pummeled by China's behavior.

I don't like being on either side of the political spectrum, if I was politically inclined which I am not for religious reasons I would be center biased.
