Lightbulb Why I bought a Getz over a Fiesta

The Hyundai Getz SX 4 door 1.6l, was $15780 drive away with mats, mud spats and headlight protectors. Thats $4k less than a comparable Fez. The Getz has ABS, Traction Control, etc. If money wasn't the issue, then the Fez might have been considered. Ford need to look at Fez pricing.

You have to look at what the Fiesta offers over the Getz though. It's a relatively fresh, new design. The build quality of the Fiesta is far superior to the Getz, as is the driving experience, it's in an entirely different class. The Getz, Rio and Barina take up the basic small car market that's price driven, then the Jazz and Fiesta are the upperclass models (the Yaris sits somewhere in the middle). The Fiesta is also built in Germany, so when the Thai built models come into Australia later this year then the price should drop and/or equipment will increase. The Getz is a basement cheap car, the Fiesta offers a lot more over this car. Most people don't give a rats *** about this, and that's fair enough, but the Fiesta was a definite class leader for me (I drove them all, including the Getz which felt like driving a tin can, not very safe feeling at all IMHO), and I had $30,000 to spend so I walked away with a bargain. My first Fiesta WP Zetec was a hoot, and this new car is no exception.

Good luck with the Getz though

totally agree... the fiesta is a much more comfortable, better handling, sporty, better built than the getz, and safer. yes its more expensive, but you get alot more equipment and quality for that money.

The Getz has a longer warranty as well doesn't it????
That's another factor that helps it sell so many.

we got a 5 year ford warranty on our zetec....

and my missus insurance was cheaper than her 15 year old mazda 121

we drove the getz.. its a good a to b car.. a 5 year warranty and you walk away for $12-14k... for anyone who just wants something to get them from home to work and doesnt enjoy cars as a hobby... well what else would you want...

but like Danny said,

it doesnt have any feel of quality like the fez, the doors sound tinny when you close them, the dash and interior are plain, none of the switchgear feels like it would last 10 years like in the fez, its not sporting to drive, and so on.. but if i had $12-14k to spend on a new car with a warranty, then it'd be fine.

but the old adage of you get what you pay for still stands with everything in life.... not just in cars.

go sit in a barina, kia, getz straight after the fez, and you'll see why those cars are the price that they are...

Drive both cars back to back. You can see why the fez has the higher price tag, and it's worth the extra. I like to drive that's why I'm happy to pay a bit more.

I had a factory warranty on my car, until I voided it by getting it serviced at work (I think).

It's not void. Provided the work was carried out under the supervision of a qualified mechanic, Ford genuine parts were used and all items prescribed in the service manual were carried out, then your warranty stands.

And the book needs to be stamped too

Oh ok, yeah its at a dealership but they didn't stamp my book, I bought oil/air filters from Ford but chose my own oil. I've got a sheet saying what they did.

If its just a ********** kicker to get to and from work (and you have a weekender you actually want to drive) then the Getz makes sense.

Personally Id go 2nd hand for an unloved A to B car, but I guess you get the piece of mind of a warranty when you buy new.

Yep, for the price, the Getz is very good value. Reliable too.

I'd have picked the same.

My parents had a Getz.....twice. Have fun trying to get Hyundai to the party if anything goes wrong, they're worse than Ford. Parents bought 3 new Hyundai's (2x Getz and 1 x Terracan) and still couldn't get any joy from either the dealer or Hyundai on a few issues. Funny thing is they bought a Nissan X Trail from the same dealer and warranty has been no issue with that. You really get what you pay for it seems.

They do seem good value but for me they are a horrible thing to drive, Hyundai can make a decent car (i30 is good!) but they failed a little with the Getz for mine.

Had the choice - spent half the money on a AU Fairmont Ghia VCT with 128k on th clock - no way I'll spend the difference in higher fuel costs and I get to work refreshed.

Nothing against the Hyundai - used to sell them for a living and as long as everyone remebers you are not buying a Rolls Royce alls good, these little beasties are reallly good value for the $$$; but for me I need some more room.....

Cheers

James

I have, I bought the GETZ for my daughter..Mean,tight fisted daddy!!!!
As I said I bought the GETZ on price. Couldn't stretch the extra $4k for a Fez.
I wanted her to have a new car, that has warranty and reasonable safety tech. Not buy someone elses troubles that could break down and keep needing expensive repairs. I suppose I should have said it was for her. She needed a car to get too and from work. I also looked at GETZ's cousin the RIO, but went for the Getz ,as dealer gave me a good deal. RRP for a GETZ SX 1.6 4 door is $16430 plus on roads.
The Fez has done 25k and fuel economy has improved to 530kms from 480kms before low fuel light comes on, must have been a tight engine. !!!

My wife had a new getz for a couple of months and now has a new fiesta.

In every way the fiesta outclasses the getz by a mile.

One quickish blat down a twisty road and it would be worth a 10k premium over the getz.
