Hey everybody. Just wondering, if a car was regestered in my name and i was to give th car to my daughter who lived at a different address, but who shared the same surname as myself, would i still have to obtain a roadworthy cert?

Even though she is a family member, it is still changing the rego into a different name. So all normal rego transfer conditions apply. So a RWC, and stamp duty, which is calulated off the price you put in on the rego transfer form.

Hmm, dunno if things changed but if the car is a "gift" to an immediate family member it was exempt.
A few years ago I transfered dad's car (he had passed away) to mum's name without any hassle. It was a simple transfer. No blue slip needed.

You will need a rwc but you are exempt from stamp duty. You may still need to pay a transfer fee (minimal coompared to stamp duty)

the way i've heard of getting around having to do the rwc is to add the other persons name to the rego then go back in a couple of weeks time and take yours off. Friends of mine have done this in their familys.

otherwise in QLD you have to get a RWC but you wont pay stamp duty. Is there a reason you need to do this? i have my daughters car in my name for last 4 years with no trouble and she cant forget to pay renewal as i get any mail on it and dont let her forget. The other bonus is i have it insured with her as one of the nominated drivers which means if she prangs it i pay a $1500 excess but so far it has saved us over $3000 in insurance fees as they want over $1200 a year to insure her and only $450 for me
