Thanks ziggee. Basically, as far as my car goes, if I can't do it, it doesn't get done.

Here's the wiring diagram.

As far as remote start goes, you can't do remote start on any smart lock or smartshield falcon (So ED onwards(?)). You need the key in the ignition to enable the BEM to allow the car to be started. So great idea in theory, and of course I have thought of doing it, but just not ****bile without some serious re-wiring of the whole car's electrical system.
ok, its late so I'm talking cr4p....

I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE of the BEM or how it works or etc...

from what I am hearing, can fathom, the key needs to be in ignition for the engine to start. What happens if you had two keys, and one was in the ignition.

Problem
(q1) can you have a key in the ignition and lock the car?

Not that I am suggesting leaving a key in the ignition all the time, I was thinking along the lines of having a key, cutting it down, putting a hole in it, putting a key clip through the hole, and once in town/parking being able to remove it and take it with me.

BUT

at night, I could leave it in, and lock the car, then in the morning, I could auto start it (just to warm it up before leaving)

I assume that the whole idea of the smartsheild is to prvent the car from starting, and would also assume that as part of this, ford, would have prevented the car from being locked whilst key in ignition.

just a silly thought...

I called up ford today and they said that the GT Button is $240, just for the button.

And ford isnt selling em to just anyone cos they dont want people DIY to their own cars. The first thing the guy asked me when i called was "Do You Own A GT?"

I dont relly like the GT start button anyways.

Check out the Honda S2000 Start Button, I called Honda and they said it is $120. Think i might use something like that. But il try find a nice lookig recessed button off Jaycar or Farnell or something, their buttons are only $30 at most anyways.

The Honda button also has interchangable covers so if you dont want red, you dont have to have red. Also has an LED inside it, so you can light up the words on the button if you wanted.

Is gonna be so sweet.

JC - Absolute Legend you are for helping out with this. Thanx heaps.

I'l post more when iv done it, including pics for yous all to see.

Cheers.

Thanx

And i love the idea of the auto start just on your keyless entry of something. That would be great to warm the car up. I wouldnt care if people thort i was a ****3r cos of that......i rekon its great.
Yep, they are expensive alright. Post up a pic and price of the button you get, and where from as well. Mine is just a cheap $10 button and wouldn't mind replacing it woth something that does the same job, but looks a bit better.

As for the remote start, not gunna happen on an ED to AU falcon, without some major (read expensive) rewiring.

Button I'l prob be using.

The First Pic Is Jaycar Order Number - SP0755
2nd Pic Is Jaycar Order Number - SP0700
3rd Pic Is Farnell Order Number - 102635

These are all between $2.00 and $30.00 from memory.

Much cheaper than the $120.00 for the S2000 Button and the $240.00 for the GT Button.

Or just go to these links and have a squizz for yourselves, yous might like something different to me.

Which contacts are N/O & N/C on the relay, any part order numbers or anything.

Another option I thought of for a starter button was using a "missile" switch. They usually come with an on/off toggle, but you can get a momentary toggle that would work. So lift the red cap, hold the toggle and when the car starts, the toggle reverts back to the off position. Something like this:

but replace the toggle with a memontary toggle (so about $20 worth all up)

No Sweat. Thanx for the replies.

I had a second part to this original questions...........Does anyone know of someone who has an engine cover for the AU V8's. I dont have one and it kinda looks messy under my bonnet. A Cover like the EF/EL's or the Series 2&3 AU's would be great.....what fits a Series 1.

I just put a new thread up about Bonnet Mods, if yous wana add to it if yous know anything about em.

Cheers.

Rocket - AWC do an engine cover for the AU XR 8s. They are site sponsors - click on their ad up above and give them a call. Adam will help you out.

Here's the handy little link that EA2BA used for describing the N/O and N/C of relays , excellent recource , clearlly describes how a relay works ;) http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp ...

Here's also a list of handy schematics by BOSCH for wiring up relays for all sorts of different applications http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/500-001.pdf ..

I noticed a few people on here were unclear on how a relay works / the pin layout / wiring for them etc etc , so i thought it wouldn't hurt to post those link , should make it alot clearer for those new to relays . Gotta start somewhere ! - happy wiring all . .

Here's my new, factory look starter button. I've edited it in paintbrush just for some small humour, but it's actually the central locking door button as fitted to AU2s etc. Got it for $12 off ebay, and it works a treat. You would not use this button unless you use a relay (which I have used).

You can buy the starter from ebay uk for around 50 dollars delivered including relays instructions and a nice red button with engine start.

Best and safest to use a relay ;) , and then you can use any low voltage/ low amp button too. About $5 worth of parts / not including the wire .

Except if you don't want people to know it's an engine start button. Mine is a stealth engine start button, so the open door button masks its true function perfectly for me.
