Thats a nice colour! Very clean, make sure you look after her!

And it is a shame about the towbar, because the bar has to be cut to fit it and as we all know, cuts are permanent!

Mate you wont regret that choice. They really are the best car to sit behind the wheel of, even better in manual form IMO. With some upgrades to suspension components they have the best handling i've felt from a car that size.

Great choice in colour aswell, very rare.

Hope you enjoy mate and roll on the mods :

I've seen an original R-rim Rebel rear bar with that cut out section welded back up, again so it's not entirely permanent.

Congratulations on the purchase, Doug.

Hi all......

I'm really enjoying the XR8 220!!!!

I just had it tuned at Crescent Motorsport on Saturday......Very happy with the result.....The only mods are a 3" cat back exhaust and CAI.

It has 176rwkw and 421nm........The car feels much more responsive and the engine revs out smoothly.......Off idle response has been improved a lot. I also love the firmer shifts on the Auto after a custom edit......

Thank you Joe at Crescent......He spent a fair bit of time with the tune to get it where it is.....He could have gotten a few more kw's but optimised the tune for the best torque.....It feels great.......

Hi DougM

Congrats on the purchase of one of Ford's Fine Automobiles.
Also
My dad and I both have VZs as work cars (mine is an 07 wagon, his is an 05 ute) and both of us are extremely happy that we don't have to pay for fuel for them - cos they drink like there's no tomorrow. A constant 15-20% more fuel used in the same situations compared to my old Aug04 VYII work wagon. The VY felt faster too...

I hate VZs.

Don't mean too sound picky, but thats seems like a very low figure for a tuned 220???

My 220, stock standard, nothing done to it at all was 182rwkw.
After basic mods; Airfilter, Airbox, Exhaust, Extractors, Thermostat, Phenolic Spacer, and still NO edit, I pulled 201, then 204rwkw....

Really doesn't sound right, and when you check the other 220's out on the forums, we all have very similiar power with those above mods, Approx 195 - 205rwkw out of at least 3 that I can think of, with mods similiar to mine.

It's an auto, yours is a manual. They were on different dynos etc etc.

The figures sound right to me for an auto 220.

I'd agree with you if it was stock, but Na dude, not tuned. For a STOCKY AUTO I could swallow 176rwkw, but he has modded it.
Exhaust and tune, even with auto should be way better than that... Just look at other auto 220's..... Not ONE of them has a figure that low with an exhaust and tune NOT A SINGLE ONE.... except this guys lol

I dunno, I agree about the different dyno's conditions and stuff, but that figure is more like what 200's pull not the 20's....

I dunno, maybe I don;t know what i'm talking about lol

And mine was........

EDIT: Actually looking at the AU power and times list there are a few 220's in that range.

Yours did NOT pull 176rwkw, WITH EXHAUST AND TUNE. STOCK YES - MOD = NO

If your looking at the same 220's I am, you will clearly see a pattern. Yes acceptable power (176rwkw) Stock, but he has exhaust and edit, alone that should bring him to at least 185 - 190.

The only way I see that figure is a very tight dyno, or a sick 220

Not trying to argue with ya mate :-), but I can't see many 220's WITH MODS down that far on the list

james22 i find it hard to believe yours pulled that without an edit, happy dyno if you ask me. both myself and woosha have either unichip or flashtuner and we are at around the same rwkw.
Airfilter, Airbox, Exhaust, Extractors, these are your only real power mods.
Thermostat, Phenolic Spacer the spacer will give you more tourqe but not alot rwkw, and the themostat i doubt you would notice any difference for power.

if it really does pull 204 on more than one dyno i will swallow my tounge, yours could just be freak car, but 204 with your mods seems high to me.

Mine made 171rwkw with a Unichip *bleh* full exhaust and headers, herrod intake pipe and the GT40 upper intake.

A 10-15kw difference is bugger all between different dynos. For example mine when first flash tuned on the G&D Dandenong dyno made 222rwkw, when I had it retuned the initial run it made 208rwkw with a twin 2.5" system replacing the old single 2.5" system. The reason was they had had new software put into their dyno in between my tunes resulting in a difference of what you could very safely say was more than the 14kw difference shown due to mods, more like 20kw IMO.

See my point, dynos really are just a tuning tool and their power figures should never be taken too seriously. It is on the track where numbers count.

I agree totally, as per my previous post, diff conditions etc.

My whole point to start with was that seemed a low figure for a tuned 220.

The majority of 220's I have seen around here pulled that Tuned figure (176rwkw) stock standard. Hence my questioning the power output? Once again, could be the dyno. But it seems strange that out of all the different dyno's people have had their cars tuned on, all give preety much the same end result with a tuned 220 as the post above shows. Which is approx 195 - 205 rwkw?????

And the power run with the 201.3rwkw by the way is untuned. If you look at the graphs in my profile, my AFR's are in the mid 10's :ticking: :ticking: Ugly lol

Exactly my point. These cars have all been on different dyno's. But the same mods gave preety much the same end result. Except for this case... Come on 176 :

lol no one is trying to start a power fight,

176 is little low, mine made 175 standard. but dynos are dynos, and mine has pulled a 173 with my mods on a dyno here in sa one week after i pulled 202.

who do you believe?

maybe the dyno he went on was reading low, the most important thing is hopefully he notices a lot of difference now it is tuned, i know my feels like it pulls extremely hardnow mid range when i have my tune running.

A stock 200kw auto is around 140kw-150kw so ad an extra 15kw on that as you dont get it all at the wheels that gives say 160kw to be even exhaust and tune 20kw so about 180 so i think he is on the right side with his figures if it was a manual it would be a diff story but this is my opinion, as long as he has felt it go harder and is happy drive it enjoy it and be happy with it.

Enjoy

Just to add to the debate. My mates '01 AUII 220kw sedan, 5spd manual, SS inductions CAI, K&N Filter, 1/2 Phenolic spacer, Pacemakers, magnaflow cats and press bent twin 2.5" exhaust, untuned pulled 185rwkw (250rwhp). This was also with AFR's in the mid 10-11's. Some reason alot of AU 220's run rich.

This is a more reasonable amount of power for the mods IMO. The only way you can really compare one car to another is if they are ran on the same dyno on the same day. As Russel said they are only a tuning tool.
