Default Need help with a computer virus

I have a computer virus. I have anti-virus software, which I have ran, however the virus cannot be removed by it.

I run 2000 professional on my P.C. and I ran it in safe mode to try to remove the virus, however it will not let me run the virus software in that mode.

The virus is a trojan horse and is located in three files. Two of them are in the System 32 files and the other one is in program files.

It is driving me nuts, any suggestions on how I can get rid of it??

You dont mention what anti virus software you are running. What you can try is going to

http://www.symantec.com/region/au_nz/downloads/

and see if you can download a fix from their database.

If the virus software wont run in safe mode, then you'll probably just have to delete the files manually while in safe mode.

if not try renaming the file then move it to a new directory and then deltree /y the directory you made that tends to be all i do when it tells me i have a virus

I agree with davway, AVG free... also spysweeper helps too.

Also Jamie's suggestion of symantec.com if you know the name of the virus.

Sounds like it has a grip on your system if it won't leave, you'll just have to force the f#cker.

You do realise that every time you turn your PC on that it's possibly mutating and spreading further.

It would be a really good help if you could tell us the name of the virus before you find yourself reformatting your hard disk drive.

I had the same problem of late with a trojan, I was running Nortons 2004, picked it up alright, even found the folder it was hiding in, but Nortons couldn't remove it for some reason.
I was just getting ready to kick in my screen when I thought I'll give AdaWare a crack at it, luckily enuff it worked. Got rid of the whole folder it was in, the folder had no use at all for me, but it worked and that was the main thing.
So if you've got an AdaWare program, run it and see what happens.
