Thumbs down Re: TCI C4 Super Street Fighter

Thanks for asking who sold it , but does it matter , it was one of the performance warehouse people, not you , and simply want to share my bad experience with the wider community ,who need to know, any test is at my own expense and any replacement part is at my expense , basically no warranty to speak of, compaired to any locally supplied product , in a nut shell , i cant take the car to a locally built trans guy and let him test drive for faults, or see the oil leaks from extention housing to main body, rear seal and band nuts. speedo drive sometimes works , if its cold it wont upshift out of 1st at all , thousands of dollars wasted .

Are you going to give us more info now then? Was it a new trans, where was it purchased from? What car do you have? What power? What mods? etc etc.

I need to re-address this , The Supplier was trying to help , was'nt ignoring me or the problems i'm having , it was more like his hands where tied buy the manufacturer and the painfully slow responses to requests for help from TCI.
Months go buy without a resolution to the issue and blame goes all directions,
My appollogies B If you unfortunately read this , my bad , i worded it wrong. I'm still an ongoing customer .

TCI OFFICIAL RESPONSE ,
The shifting issues are going to be related to the govenor i believe, the issues with oil leaks have most likely come about from sitting for any extended period of time prior to installation. Generally we do not recommend transmissions sit for more than 30 days prior to install.
For international warranty claims , the policy would be to ship it back to us and we will be able to go thru it , with that being said TCI is not liable for the international shipping costs.
Be sure to asked about package
specials and FREE freight !!!!
Dallas Moss
TCI Technical Consultant.

So back to what i was saying , My advise , based on bad experience , buy local , with local warranty , unless of course you own an international freight company based in Mississippi, because TCI aren't supporting or Warranting there product in Australia .
ITS AS SIMPLE AS THIS " DON'T BUY TCI "

I have earlier this year been in two TCI C6's that belonged to members here .
One failed and from day one had a terrible 2-3 flare . Was some pretty poor assembly also . Failure was from a poorly fitted snap ring and required a few hard parts needing replacement.
Two pump gaskets fitted to get endfloat was a good one

The other had issues from the beginning and wouldn't shift from new and to rectify had to have a replacement valvebody fitted to make it right .
I pulled it apart to upgrade for more power anyway but again some fairly poor assembly from new was found . A missing reverse piston return spring among other things
Based on those two i'd not recommend TCI :(
Their valvebodies suck . If you have a TCI valvebody and it works you are lucky

I think the local distributor is letting you down. You bought it here in AU? Take it back to them and let them sort it out with TCI. That's their job.

Exactly! if you purchased from a supplier here they have to give you a new replacement and if they don't, contact your local consumer protection authority and file a complaint.

I was going to by a TCI C4, so glad I ended up having one built locally...cheaper in the long run.

Got it from a Victorian Performance Warehouse, who are certainly laughing at how they have got away with letting the tests, Mods and repairs be my problem and expense .

LO, your contract is with them. They may then have an issue with their supplier, but that is not a problem of yours.

I see in subsequent posts, this is the path you are pursuing, good luck.

As mentioned, go back were you bought it from and get your money back, it is not your responsibility to deal with the US supplier unless you bought it straight from them.

You deal with who you bought it from here in Australia, if they are reselling a rubbish product it is their problem to deal with and sort out.

Then again there are always three sides to the story, your version, their version and what actually happened somewhere in between. Not saying you are lying or they are lying, but generally people only see things from their perspective.

How long did you have the trans before installing it or actually driving the car would be a big one.

What did you buy?? ie is what you bought correct for the purpose you bought it for??

Who installed the transmission??

etc etc

I'm hearing ya buddy , the 511605 is a direct replacement for our Aussie Falcons able to handle 800 HP, and yeh it sat for a few months prior to install by two qualified motor mechanics, using TCI 3000 converter, no stone was left unturned during assembly of my $20000 plus dream combination, no 1/2 up shift was. Reported immediately and 30 or so emails and numerous phone calls of try this , try that , I now have a trans with up shifts that flare or delay . It's now 8 months later , without resolution, anyway are you hearing my pain? Or perhaps you have a suggestion, I'm all ears .

My suggestions is not send emails, but personally see the person you bought it from, they are responsible for the product they sold.

From what I have heard TCI do poor quality work at best, even the converters I have seen cut open are a disgrace, but I am no automatic trans specialist.

If you do see them in person I would suggest a follow up email starting with " Re our meeting today" that way there is always a paper trail and not a he said, she said situation if it turns legal.

Great advice, but I was mainly referring to sending emails to the US, you can still document email with the local supplier, but there is nothing like speaking person to person, face to face to resolve stuff.

We are currently in the process of building a house, it's not the first time we are building and everything is documented either via email and contemporaneous notes kept in a diary of any phone conversation, things such as what was discussed, what was the outcome of discussion, who was present during the discussion, etc etc.

We been caught out before, so we have now learned to document everything as memories get hazy as time goes on and more stuff happens.
