Question Hiclone

Ok. We all bag this product. BUT with rising fuel prices and Adolph Howard not reducing the excise. Anyone here using or used one. What is your experience ? does it work or not ?

My brother used one on a diesel hilux. Said it may have improved his fuel consumption by 50km's or so going by his trips...but couldnt notice much in the way it drove

No! We all bag it because its absolute snake all with no credible way to back its claims.. (Adolph howard, huh, loopy latham will be pleased to know at least one believer bought his book.)

Im skeptical but ive read at least one reputable magazine article that found small gains from it. They were VERY surprised.

I used a hiclone in my AU XR8. my milage was improved and I got an extra 80 km to a tank. There was no performance gains at all. And I have not installed one in to my BA.

some cars it works, some it doesnt- like the 4L SOHC motors.

ive read great gains in fuel economy on the xf's, and also a tiny bit more power.

i think it depends on the inlet manifold, how long the runners are and the shape of it. ie. no sharp bends. IT is supposed to produce a swirling motion in the air (something known to produce power and economy) and into the combustion chamber. So as long as its still swirling when it gets past the valves then it will work, just depends how much swirling effect is left. two hiclones help - one at each end of the throttle body pipe.

but all depends on what car its put on. there is a 30 day money back garuntee on em so they can be worth a try.

My old man bought one of these years ago when they hit the shelves, he wacked it in his EF TQE, and he said it was a POS, noticed a decline in mid range rpm performance, no economy increase. Item was promptly returned

And yes its $160 but if ya want your money back ya can, so really it doesnt depend on what I THINK, it depends on what the person who buys it thinks and if its worth that money to em. if not they take it back. simple really, isnt it? it aint rocket science.

yep thats it, wont work on the ef 6cyl, intake tract is too long and too sharp bends. I wouldnt bother fitting them to most efi cars, as most have fairly long and sharp bending intake manifold pipes.

i would say carbied cars get better gains coz their intake manifolds are usually shortish and no big banana bends.

I thought the idea was to help atomise the fuel due to turbulance, but how the "swirl" survives through EFI inlets I have no idea. Still the Helix style spacer touted by many for the BA V8's "seems" to have a credible effect, but personally I can't see how, other than adding to the length and volume of the inlet...I could believe small ones IN the inlet just prior to the injector having an effect....

With a carb, I can see how this may work, as the doover is often right on top of where the fuel is added in the carb. I managed to score a freebie "back in the day" and noticed no effect on any carbie car i put it on.

Strangely I have noticed these as standard fitment in the inlet of a few stock diesel 4x4's...

I wonder if anyone has been silly enough to bolt one up before a turbo....

Had two in a rodeo made no difference at all. Cheaper ways of achieving same effect, or claimed effect.

How the hell can a restriction cause rich running, dumbarse? The fuel is metered AFTER the restriction. Get a clue before you abuse people.

I have a mate considering putting one on his Turbo deisel Daihatsu Rocky (Suzuki Sierra sized 4WD)

I don't know much about these HiClone things, but I have heard a bit about them.

Would it be worth his while or is it really as much of a useless piece of shatmandu as you guys make out?

When HIclone avertise on TV in my area the only places that they advertise that carry them are 4wd shops. Maybe thats where they work best in underdeveloped diesels and 4wds

Thing with the Helix's is they also increase the plenum volume, so even if they dont provide a vortex action, they increase the plenum volume.
