Default Strange Knocking Sound

Hey I have a KF Ford Laser and once you get over about 10km/h there is a strange cyclical knocking sound from the left rear wheel almost like a flat tyre but obviously I have checked and the tyre wasn't flat....

I thought it might be a buckled rim so I put the spare on but to no avail. Put the wheel up on the jack and spun it and there was no obvious sound and shook the wheel and there wasn't a lot of play.

Wheel bearings on the way out? Ideas?

There are no cv-joints at the rear.. sound like it might be awheel bearing.. Chock the front wheels, jack the car up, spin the wheel (Neutral with the handbrake off) and see if it makes a grinding noise.. you will know it's stuffed then.

Im sorry, missed the critical "rear" part of the question. Boy do I feel silly....

Yeah tried that and there was no discernible sound. If it makes a difference the rear shock appears to be stuffed the wheel grinds the tyre in corners with somebody heavy over the wheel but I have been in lots of small cars with that and no knocking sound.

It's almost like I have a square wheel but I checked and the wheel isn't square...

It comes once per revolution it appears barely perceptivle at low speeds and building to an anooying vibration at high speeds

check the inside edge of both tyres for high and low spots on each tread block. if it is like that replace both tyres.

My grandson rang me last night complaining about this exact subject. I told him to check the wheel nuts. 5 minutes later he rings to tell me his wheel fell off. After I stopped laughing, I asked him why he did not check them. No tools, no jack = no wheel. Took him 20 minutes to find it and it had not hit anything, phewww! so I took tools and jack and got him on his way. Bu the way, while I was there, I forced him to check his other wheels. 3 loose wheel nuts on the other side. He has to learn some basic maintenance.

Bald spots on the tyres most probably. Check wheel nuts are right type for the wheel as well.

i would have a closer look at the tyre, perhaps it maybe starting to delaminate from the inside out.
