Trust me your symptoms = coils, simple as that. What State Suburb are you in? The plugs may be ok but it’s silly to go to all the trouble of changing the coils and 'not' do the plugs while you’re at it.

Forget about your trans, it may feel a bit strange but it will be because the engine is running so poorly.

The coils supply the spark to the plugs, with the multi coil engine even stuffed coils will still work ok until you put them under load, that’s when they will earth out and interrupt the power to the spark plugs.

thanks guys whats a TB clean??? my mechanics are great really nice guys dont charge me when they cant find what it is they went over the car couldnt find anything wrong
but they only have a small garage its not ford or anything

And why is it doing it sometimes and other times its fine
This is why I think its to do with moisture but the mechanic said if it is moisture it should go away pretty quick

Ps car sits there a lot

Check fuel supply and ignition... Which is bassic servicing maintenance...
Check all vacuum hoses including hose to map senser...
Thn double check if cat has collpsed inside restricting exhaust..
If engine has over 120,000 klmrs I would replace the 02 sensers..

thread moved as requested.

Given what we know the problem could be spark/fuel/air (in that order I'd suggest)

aaron, invest in spell check mate (that thread titles a beauty) ;)

if your car struggles at idle, 99 out of 100 times, it will not be your fuel filter.

its almost definately a spark issue. and most likely your coilpack (people shorten that to coil, if youre confused).
Id recommend considering you have a problem at idle as well, that next time it occurs, unplug your leads one by one (plugging the last back in as you go) and if the problem gets worse, its not that lead/spark plug.

but if you notice no change, then thats your problem area -

which would then mean -
check the spark plug isnt loose,
if its tight take it out and make sure it isnt stuffed.
if the sparkplug seems fine, isnt covered in black, or look like the electrode is shot,
then id suggest changing the lead with another.. see if the problem moves with the lead change. if so, new lead.

Having said that, this is the "free test" side of things. i actually think it will be your coilpack, but as you can do above yourself, you may as well isolate problems for free as often as you can.

good luck.

Hi guys thank you... It idles ok just misses a tad but its been like that for 2 years but not bad, one day its ok next day it isnt..... If it is the coils do they play up???? will it go like that all the time after a while.... Sometimes it dont do it... car sits there a lot it has done 150km but always been serviced...... I will take it back...... Will it do any damage to the engine if it is the coil???? it still got power etc just when you put your foot down its not going smoothly and ty everyone and yes at spell check and lol

youd be running rich if its your coils, wasting fuel, losing power and slowly fouling your plugs up. best not to leave it, but you can drive it to the mechanics, just dont try and boot it.

power is fine its just shuddering when I put my foot down but not really bad
Ive been driving it like that for a month.... I took it too the mechanics for a wof..... they went right over the car adjusted my brakes and hand brake.... fixed my electric window....... checked the thing im telling you about couldnt find anything at all......

BUT i can take it back soon can it just be from the rain as some days its perfect........

I suspect I got a gremlin in the bottom of my car lol...... I cant affford to pay for a coil, then it still does it then new leads still does it.... then a fuel filter etc..... still does it....... when I ran it today it was missing a bit and the engine moved a bit is this normal.... Thanks guys im learning heaps

depends how much the engine moves, if its a little, its normal. if its bigger, your mounts are most likely shot / mounting stud snapped.

I'd have to agree with the Sparkplug/Coilpack group.

How about you start with changing Plugs and leads, this would be the easiest and cheapest place to start. If that does no good then go for the Coils.

How long since the plugs/leads have been changed ?
