And just like the electric bikes and scooter hire, file under 'and this is why we can't have nice things'
https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...is-week-report “Due to increasing costs and operational challenges associated with insurance, thefts, and vehicle repairs, we’re making changes to our business model." Anyone here renting their car in a similar way? Any interesting stories to tell? Bonus question: who would you lend your car to? and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fQDnDKhcaM

I think the grubs were able to shop for a car they wanted, get its location, smash open or exploit the lockbox and Voila! they have the key.

Friend has five cars he now has to get rid of and doesn't know where to store them,
I said in the street out the front of his house is a good place, they're all registered and you can park registered cars on the street no dramas |

lol, a mechanic in my work street does that with the cars he repairs for some car yard near by...and I mean upto 35 cars at one time, and some cars upto 6 months sitting with grass growing into the wheels... forcing workers in all the neighbouring factories to park further away...strangely he stopped leaving cars outside my factory after I informed him my forklift can pick up anything up to 2.5 tonnes and would he like a demo...

Socialism never works. Because if a person didn't invest blood, sweat or tears then they won't value it. Uber Carshare was always a risk because some people just don't give a intercourse.

Had a little kia rio run around listed on the platform - one of the cheapest rentals in the area. No issues with any customers, lock box on the passenger window, made around $300 a month.

The idea was sold to private people that letting out their cars was a low/no risk way to make money by doing precious little.. Now chicken have come home to roost and people start to realise why car rental companies charge so much. |

Was at their place last night, it's in a new housing estate The council fines you if you park on the nature strip, so everyone parks their cars on the street, as multi car families because it's in suburbia, but lot sizes are so small they don't have decent length driveways. But the streets are made narrow, to maximise how many properties they can cram into the estate, so it's difficult to get around the estate, because everyone's cars on the street.... Because the council fines them if they're on the nature strip. Absolutely ridiculous, but I'm trying my hardest to get him to bring them all home and park them on both sides of the street |

not just decent length, adequate width. the council set a maximum drievway width that is fine for single occupancy, but a dual occupancy, you cant have two cars on the driveway in front of the garage - the driveway isnt wide enough for one car to get out around the other. I'm waiting for my tenants to arc up at some stage and ask me to move the letterboxes....

Very interesting, was that after maintenance, insurance and any depreciation? Personally I wouldn't do this, but did use my old LandCruiser as the survey work vehicle so got into calculating how much it was earning my keep after it's costs.
