Default Car collectors and the GFC

This one is a bit scary. Lots of nice toys but I wonder if they will sell as well as they did some time ago. Prices have been quite high and stock for sale rather rare. Is this a one off event?

If not, is this the beginning of an avalanche.....

Hmm 1995 Corvette ZR1 looks interesting. I wonder how much that will go.

I thought these were worth a million dollars? Muscle car prices are on the way down.

???? the bubble burst 18 months ago...

If anything - the market is slowly recovering...

No GT-HO has sold for $1,000,000....

Infact a VERY good example sold recently for the mid $400k mark...

but recently... not many HO sales...

"Price guide" is the key word..... Sale price could be totally different, depending on the car itself and how it gets "assessed" if you get my drift......

From what I understand from the 'price guide' as you correctly point out 4Vman.... they are a guide - to create interest in the Auction...

Who's gonna come and look at a BF Cobra is the guide is $100k.... but if its $40k... there might be some bites....

Yep... the price guide just gets people in the door, you really then need to do your homework on the car to be satisfied with what you're bidding on, then value it yourself accordingly.
The other thing to remember is there is no set rule for the price or "value" of any particular model... it can vary wildly from example to example.
Some H3's went for big $ because they were rare, matching numbers, unrestored or were vehicles of significance..
Others with various known or identified "issues", or just "less rare" have sold for much less.

Take and judge each car on its merits.

Its certainly far more complex than just saying "the bubble has burst" or "the market is dropping".. Top dollar sales have never been a good guide for average market value, ive tended to ignore sales at either end of the scale and used "middle of the pack" sales as a guide to realistic market value.

What an obvious title for a thread about a collectible car auction......

The search system must be faulty because every time I check for collectible car auction threads I always use the keywords "chooka" and "builder"

I didnt say one sold for a million, just quoting the hyped up media reports it was about to happen after the sale of a few real top dollar examples. Now a year or so later media reports are all excited about the prices being half that, add in the number of vehicles for sale and not moving and I will stick to my theory the market is heading down. And thats a good thing, bring the vehicles back to the enthusiasts and not cashed up crooks and speculators.
