Arrow Relay clicking

I was driving along last week and i heard this clicking sound which was coming from the fuse panel drivers side i guess and at the same time the dash lights went dim... it kinda flickered for 5 sec or so and then the car revved really high and was stuck in third gear...i was on the freeway at the time.... pulled over and took off in third so i thought ok must be LHM...... Turned of engine, waited then turned back on and continued as normal 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th, so i thought oh ok must be a freak occurance but it's happened four times since then?? All my wiring is ok, what could it be, my battery terminals a a little dirty from oxidization ????
