Default How many KM's has your AU done?

Not sure if anyone has posted this in here yet but how many KM have you got on your AU and what's gone wrong with it?

Mine ('99 AU Futura I6) has done 225***km and nothing has gone wrong with it yet touch wood. Replaced plugs and leads the other day but it hasnt had any real problems though the thermostat needs replacing but its a good engine.

I've had it for 5 years, from 72*** kms to 148*** kms.

Auto trans gasket replaced, battery replaced twice, coolant hose leak fixed, engine has an intermittent very light oil leak. CD stacker jammed twice (warranty). Factory amp died once (warranty). Muffler came off pipe, had it removed. I think that's it.

I should add I've had my car for just over a year, about 15 months, had 195*** on it when I bought it. Have no idea what the last owner was like on it or how often it was maintained but i look after it well as you should with any car.

I've had my AU just over a year. It has 218,000 when I bought it. It now has 246,000.

So far I've replaced: all fluids, both engine mounts, balancer, serpentine belt+tensioner radiator+hoses, both oxygen sensors, plugs+leads, both coilpacks, brakes and tyres.

It will need a water pump and thermostat shortly and I look forward to a new exhaust.

i have a 2002 AU3 SR with 185xxx k's on it. no major problems (touchwood). i bought it in 2005 with 70k's on it (wife used to drive an hour to work in it for a year or two)

it has a very annoying dash rattle
new exhaust (old one rusted)
new mags (16's not big enough, not really a fault as such )
new idle control sensor thing a year or two ago
new battery (old one died august this year)
the annoying boot leak has been fixed
yet to sort out the rear brake squeek

hopefully it lasts another 3 problem free years, by then i should be able to afford to update... hopefully...

Where was the boot leaking from and how did you fix it?

not 100% on where it was coming from, i know it was leaking on the driver side about half way between the back seat and the back of the car..

to fix it:
1. i took the wing off and covered the top and underside of the mounting holes with some silicon/glue stuff, i think it was called 'drip check', then put the wing back on.

2. i also drilled 3 small holes (inside the bootlid) below where the number plate sits on the bootlid to let any built up water escape. parking facing up hill seemed to help a bit.

the biggest fix, and most expensive was to buy a new house with a double garage to park in :

others have suggested new boot rubbers might help.

hope that helps

Thanks. I've put on a new boot rubber, fixed one type of leak, but as yet I've not applied any sealer to the wing holes. I'll do that one next week I expect, and I may drill a few holes also, just to be sure.

there are two rattles / squeeks.

one comes from the front of the dash (close to windscreen) where the two different bits of plastic come together. the two bits either need to be stuck together or held apart. i tried to pack them out with something but it didn't work.

the other noise comes from where the centre panel (radio, air con controls) meets the rest of the dash.

both noises come and go. i can drive the car for weeks without hearing it, then one day it will decide to rattle for the whole day. it didn't rattle when i test drove it, but when we had it inspected the nrma man said there was an annoying rattle but i thought he was just being picky :

eer ah I mean 285000K, havent looked at the odo in a while and thought Id check it after I posted this the other day.
Mine has a slight bottom end rattle at idle, but until it lets go in a big way i wont be touching it,and may replace it with a 220kw 5 ltr, leaving it on gas,and my roof linnings caving in in the rear cargo area,so that will be replaced.
Id have to say this is the best most reliable car ive had and Ive had over 30 cars now, better than the wifes territory as well

Well it's been a year since I posted so now...

99 Futura Wagon
(Added 23,000 kays in 2010)
Has 230,000

01 SR Sedan
(Added 22,000 kays in 2010).
Now has 176,000

Thanks for the reminder to post a yearly update. I guess this thread will keep being mined each year, which is a good thing! LOL!

Whilst there will probably be many AUvians that move onto other cars during this year, I'm certain I'll still have both my AUs this time in 2011!

Seeyou all in 12 months.

Oh yeah and speaking of what's gone wrong with it, my handbrake has never worked... Did any AU actually leave the factory with a working handbrake? haha

I have sold my Monty, bought at 157 000 and sold at 285 000. Replaced two batteries, and that was it.
Blue car I bought as a repairable write off, after it was fixed, it had 104 000k's and apart from the accident damage, and all the mods, Ive only had to replace the extension housing seal as I had night at the drags on the slicks, and I dont think it liked it much, lol.
Blue car has 140 000 on it now, although as the diff gears make it read out, it really only has 127 720k's on it.

$16.99.
Used a hoist, 4 bolts to undo tailshaft, slips out, bit of a stuff around getting out the seal, slip the new one in, tappa tappa tappa, slide the tailshaft in, do it up, top up fluid and your done.

AU3 XR8

163k at purchase
183k at present after 6 months.

Got it cheap and was a poorly maintained reps car.

Heater Valve
Serpentine Belt
Driver door actuator
Will need new rad hoses, SP's & leads shortly
Fortunately drivetrain survived previous owners neglect. Runs beautifully, gotta love a Ford

Exactly what mine did. Easier to break it than try to get off the hose clamps.

546,000km, will be pushing 550k after new years.
On it's second g/box, original unopened engine that burns no oil. Could do with new rotors, springs, shocks and all suspension bushes. Has a bit of rust around the boot struts. Front crank seal is leaking a small amount of oil. Expected with the amount of kays.
All in all a farkin great car.
