XR5 clutch pedal on the floor when cold

Hi can anyone tell me why my clutch pedal would be close to the floor in the mornings, I've read conflicting stories, some say it's the spring, master cylinder etc, it operates ok once I turn the car on . Thanks

Does it return to the normal position after start or are you pulling it back up to position?

Well good question, because I'm aware of it I tend to pull it back with my foot, I start it and the clutch is fine, most times though it's half way to the floor and comes back either when I pull it up with my foot or just drive it the way it is.

Sounds like the clutch slave cylinder. Does the lever go through the firewall ok when the pedal is depressed? Any extra effort required to make the clutch work?

There does seem to be a few with this complaint without anything definite as to the cause. I would be starting with the easiest jobs first. Fluid change & slave / master cylinders, slave cylinders can be a real pain in some cars these days as they are buried and can sometimes mean taking the box off. If that is the case that might sway the order of attack.

OK. I had this same problem and it drove me nuts for about the last six months. New fluid and bleed clutch and brakes but never fixed the droopy clutch pedal. What you need to do is very simple and will cost nothing and all up will take about 30 seconds when you know what to do. I will explain below;
Get your a torch and position yourself with your head down near the brake and clutch pedals. It's difficult but most of us can fit in this awkward position. Look up at the extended end of the clutch pedal lever and you will see a return spring and a white coloured plastic device with connecting pivot pin which gets sticky. Add a dab of high melting point grease onto the centre of the white plastic thing and also a bit on the spring end that connects to pedal arm. Tomorrow morning you will want to thank me.
