That's the one I'm after. The large muffler in the middle and the smaller one at the rear. It's black. Is that the colour of yours JC?

Yep - that's the one.

A mandrel bend is where they insert a shape into the pipe, then bend it. The inserted shape (I assume this is called a madrel??) keeps the pipe round and retains the pipe diameter, throughout the curve/bend they are putting in it. A press bend is just bent on a pipe bending machine and closes up the pipe throughout the bend, so 2.5" suddenly becomes 2" or thereabouts, and when the pipe straightens, it's back to 2.5". So the mandrels are all about retaining the pipe diameter throughout the length of the pipe, even at the bends.

GK, give Werribee Exhausts a call, the shop doesnt look like much, nor does the owner for that matter, but they're a good bunch down there, and they're pretty cheap too. They're on Railway ave. Len is the owners name I think.

Thanks for the heads up, but I just booked it in for tomorrow morning at Melton.

The system is the same as described by JC, mandrel bent, installed for $320-330 bucks.

Cheers,

as far as i know it's only bad if you do it excessively, it also depends how you do it...also keep in mind that sticking it in 1st, 2nd or 3rd keeps the torquw convertor engaged until the car is stopped, so this also uses engine braking without shifting down thru the gears

Exhaust fitted. Sounds nice indeed! No drone really, a good note when cruising around town, pretty quiet on the highway.

Sounds really nice on startup!

Glad I got the resonator on the back though! LOL!

All up, it was $395 fitted with a nice chrome rolled tip.

^^i don't know about you, but i've noticed i get a much better sound with economy mode turned off...as well as that it holds the revs a lot longer when accelerating. the note will more than likely change as the system carbons up as well

Just in case someone else reads this in a search, don't be afraid of a hotdog and one muffler if it's done right. My exhaust is a custom job by Sureflo Exhausts in Ingleburn here in Sydney. Its a custom pipe from the cat to a "Sureflo" muffler, just behind the back door, then a Redback mandrel-bent pipe with a hotdog into a "Double-D" Style chrome tip. It sounds awesome under acceleration, and on the freeways, you can't hear it at all, except when overtaking of course.

Really happy with it, and would recomend Sureflo to anyone in Sydney who can be stuffed going and checking them out, even if they are a dunnydore specialist, they know their onions.

The lukey system I had fitted 5tumpy, was set up exactly the same as you speak of, but mine sounded like it had no exhaust when on the freeway! It was on the car for less than a week, un bareable.

Just a warning to those getting a system, make sure you know what you are getting, don't just trust the guy's putting it on give you what you ask for.

we have/had the exact same lukey system, except yours was for IRS, not live axle... so something was amiss.

What I mean is do your research properly, compare prices, try and find a forum member who has the system you want and take a ride in their car if possible so you know what you are getting.

I got burnt because I explained what i wanted, a quiter sports system that I can't hear on the freeway. I was told that could be achieved, and that the fitter had just installed the same system for a 50 year old custmer who was extremley happy with it. I'm 24 and couldn't bare it! Anyway i'm not going into that issue again.

Just want others to be aware that these things can happen and that it can leave a dirty big hole in ones pocket.

Sounds like you might have had a whole or gap somehwere

cheers for the advice. HLC has the same system i want, and he lives near me so im ride in his car, check driving, freeway cruising, and general noise levels to make sure im happy with it FIRST.
