A person with a valid medical condition should have provided a medical certificate or at the very least provided details and complied with directions.

If fined then and they didn't have it on their person, provide it later. It isn't hard.

It doesn't exempt how it was handled by Victoria Police, yes she did the wrong thing and went to illicit a response from them and she got it in spades, now its all over the news and someone is getting the trial by media.

I'm interested to see how this is handled by Victoria Police and what they present to the media or if it goes to court.

If she was black I bet the attitude would be different given it triggered a massive protest in Melbourne a few months ago.

Yeah it doesn't engender much confidence - maybe the tone was not that of the message.

Continual flareups and lockdowns would be tiring in its own way,

She has already been charged and released. Will get before a judge soon enough.

The lady is getting hammered and the cops praised by the looks of things.

New Zealand coronavirus: Four cases confirmed in one household
After 102 days without coronavirus, New Zealand has confirmed four cases in one family, with no known source.

Stephanie Bedo AUGUST 11, 2020

New Zealand is no longer virus free, with four cases confirmed from one household in Auckland.

The cases have no known source and authorities are working to figure out where the family contracted coronavirus.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Auckland would return to stage three restrictions for three days starting from midday tomorrow.

The rest of the country will return to stage two for thee days until midnight Friday.

“I know this information will be difficult to receive,” she said.

“We hoped we would not be in this position again.”

The cases had no connection to overseas travel.

The first case confirmed was a person in their 50s who presented to their GP with symptoms yesterday.

Health Minister Dr Ashley Bloomfield said authorities sprung into action and tested the rest of the family.

How the hell would that happen??

100+ days virus free, border lockdown and it persists?

Yep its been a bit weird here the last few days, late last week they govt have been telling us its not if but when it returns and to prep with buying masks, almost like they knew then. Maybe stop bring people across the boarder with only a two week quarantine make it three or four.

What is to stop people sending this stuff via the handling of parcels from one country to another? If you open something from a foreign country how would you know it was there?
Remember back with the Anthrax, people were sending powder in the mail. It was something you could see when you opened it.
Covid is not something you can see and could probably survive in refrigerated containers of food for example.

No or very minimal community testing.
The borders were never closed, despite what the government said.
People escaping isolation.
People let out of isolation with no testing.
People let out of isolation early.
People let out of isolation early with no testing.
Hotels used for isolation as well as accomodating domestic tourists who’re none the wiser.
People in their second day of isolation mixing with those in their 13th day.
Jacinda brings in over 100 relatives of the Mosque shooting to be at Tarrants trial. Who are all from supposed Covid hotspots.

But once again it simply asks more questions than it answers. As per with Covid 19, actions and decisions around it, nothing adds up.

The only thing adding up will be stressed businesses and household seeing how long they can weather this stupidity.

Didn't one of China's outbreaks come from frozen seafood imported from Ecuador? All food entering that country now needs proof of virus-free status. It has affected our seafood exports....mind you I haven't noticed any drop in local lobster prices as a result

Quite possible. Early on there was information about how long the virus lasted on different surfaces.

Quote:
How Long Does the Coronavirus Live on Surfaces?

Different Kinds of Surfaces

Metal
Examples: doorknobs, jewelry, silverware
5 days

Wood
Examples: furniture, decking
4 days

Plastics
Examples: milk containers and detergent bottles, subway and bus seats, backpacks, elevator buttons
2 to 3 days

Stainless steel
Examples: refrigerators, pots and pans, sinks, some water bottles
2 to 3 days

Cardboard
Examples: shipping boxes
24 hours

Copper
Examples: pennies, teakettles, cookware
4 hours

Aluminum
Examples: soda cans, tinfoil, water bottles
2 to 8 hours

Glass
Examples: drinking glasses, measuring cups, mirrors, windows
Up to 5 days

Ceramics
Examples: dishes, pottery, mugs
5 days

Paper
Examples: mail, newspaper
The length of time varies. Some strains of coronavirus live for only a few minutes on paper, while others live for up to 5 days.

Food
Examples: takeout, produce
Coronavirus doesn't seem to spread through food.

Water
Coronavirus hasn't been found in drinking water. If it does get into the water supply, your local water treatment plant filters and disinfects the water, which should kill any germs.

Fabrics
Examples: clothes, linens
There’s not much research about how long the virus lives on fabric, but it’s probably not as long as on hard surfaces.

Shoes

One study tested the shoe soles of medical staff in a Chinese hospital intensive care unit (ICU) and found that half were positive for nucleic acids from the virus. But it’s not clear whether these pieces of the virus cause infection. The hospital’s general ward, which had people with milder cases, was less contaminated than the ICU.

Skin and hair

There’s no research yet on exactly how long the virus can live on your skin or hair. Rhinoviruses, which cause colds, survive for hours. That’s why it’s important to wash or disinfect your hands, which are most likely to come into contact with contaminated surfaces.

What You Can Do
To reduce your chance of catching or spreading the new coronavirus, clean and disinfect common surfaces and objects in your home and office every day. This includes:

Countertops
Tables
Doorknobs
Bathroom fixtures
Phones
Keyboards
Remote controls
Toilets
Use a household cleaning spray or wipe. If the surfaces are dirty, clean them first with soap and water and then disinfect them.

You can also make a bleach solution that will be good for up to 24 hours. Mix 5 tablespoons (one-third cup) of household bleach per gallon of water, or 4 teaspoons per quart of water. Never mix bleach with ammonia or another cleanser. Leave cleaners or bleach solutions on surfaces for at least 1 minute.

Keep surfaces clean, even if everyone in your house is healthy. People who are infected may not show symptoms, but they can still shed the virus.

Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds after you visit the drugstore or supermarket or bring in takeout food or a delivered newspaper.

It's a good idea to wash fruits and vegetables under running water before you eat them. Scrub them with a brush or your hands to remove any germs that might be on the surface. If you have a weakened immune system, you might want to buy frozen or canned produce.

There’s no evidence that anyone has gotten the virus from food packaging. But if you want, you can wipe down take-out containers or grocery items and let them air dry.

Wash or disinfect reusable grocery bags after each use. Wash used fabrics often, using the warmest water that the manufacturer recommends. Dry them completely. Wear disposable gloves when handling an ill person’s laundry. Throw them away when you’re done, and wash your hands.

The virus probably won’t survive the time it takes for mail or other shipped items to be delivered. The highest risk comes from the person delivering them. Limit your contact with delivery people as much as you can. You might also leave packages outside for a few hours or spray them with a disinfectant before bringing them in. Wash your hands after you handle mail or a package.

If you want, you can disinfect the soles of your shoes and avoid wearing them indoors.

Reading the above - your assumption certainly does have merit - considering express post between countries can be achieved in 1-3 days

Yes Jacindas crew are not proving to be as transparent as they have made out to be, in fact it was a election promise. Also that will explain the rumour doing the rounds of a charter flight of a hundred people showing up recently of non english speaking people.

Until it gets to Austpost central at Chullora or Strathfield. It then takes at least 7 days to make it here

This. There has been plenty of cases identified to show a negative test result 14 days after coming into contact with a known positive source, only to then test positive and be infectious 20 to 24 days after.

14 days is not enough it seems for a very small percentage of cases. And that is why it will always start again.

Asking someone to isolate for 14 days seems very difficult, yet alone isolate for 24 to 28 days.

That is what West Australians are doing who want to get home but have to fly into the country via the East Coast. 14 days over east and 14 days on entry to WA

Five7, a coincidence the over the past two week the prime minister and director general of health has been telling the country to prepare for a second lockdown and stick up on masks hey.
Also a coincidence leaked cabinet documents in the second week of July mentioned a second lockdown in August.

Woman charged with assaulting police as arrest video emerges
Chanel Zagon

Police say a woman involved in a confronting arrest for not wearing a mask in Melbourne assaulted officers after defying a request to provide identification.

Video of the confrontation, which surfaced online this morning, shows a policeman grasping the 21-year-old woman by her neck in Collingwood while she screams "he's choking me".

"Get off of me," the woman can be heard saying in the video.
Victoria Police confirmed to 9News the incident occurred while officers were patrolling Wellington Street, when they saw the woman not wearing a mask about 5pm yesterday.

Police arrested the woman after she refused to provide identification for breaching the Chief Health Officer's directions.

In the video, a policewoman urges the woman to release her grip of the male officer.

"Let go of his vest," the policewoman said.
The woman appears to attempt to kick the officers, with the policeman pinning her to the ground before sitting on top of her.

"Police made the decision to arrest the woman after she failed to provide her name and address," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"She also did not state she had an exemption for not wearing a face covering. "She then became physically aggressive and kicked a female officer to the upper body.

"The woman continued to resist arrest and had to be taken to ground before being arrested."

A concerned male bystander can be heard questioning the officer's use of force in the video, saying "are you serious – for not having a mask?"

The policewoman was transported to hospital for observation.

The St Kilda woman was taken to a police station to confirm her identity. She has since been charged with resisting and assaulting police.

However, she did not receive a fine for failing to wear a face covering because she later told police she had an exemption.

She was bailed to appear at court at a later date.

The arrest has been referred to the Professional Standards Command for oversight.

I thought the cop was pretty restrained. I guess having a loud mouth with a cellphone recording you tends to ensure you don’t break out the batten and give her a twack to settle her down...

I loved the “you’re choking me you’re choking me” bit... ahh, if you’re getting choked you’re not screaming out.

Cop should have dropped the knee on her throat and posed for the cameras. Imagine the response.

The 23 year old woman in Frankston was bailed and received a $200 fine for not wearing a mask after beating a police officers head into the footpath a couple of times, she has been charged but is facing court in March next year.

We've got some interesting court cases on the agenda, this month is Richard Pusey.

It’s interesting watching this (CV) spread inexorably through Sydney now. I think it will be more difficult to contain than Melbourne. So long as I’ve got sufficient supplies for my projects laid in, and the weather is OK... Not looking forward to a curfew unless it’s 10, not 8PM. Restrictions on movement will be facing an uphill battle against the double standard here.

Same here; unless I see the what the questions were and the sample size I'm a bit sus. But this does fit in with what is happening here in Qld, most seem to approve of firm action to control the spread no matter the cost to the economy.
Campaigning is underway for our state election on Oct 31st and I expect it will be fought over who would have controlled it best and how we handle the economic recovery. Politics and the virus are inexorably linked. For us older folk our very life depends on how well the politicians handle this.

Guardian is usually pretty neutral I find, but yeh it would have been good to see the size and spread, and also way the questions were phrased. (Edit: actually its in the article, 500 victorians, pretty small sample size)

You'd be mad to criticise QLD on their handling. You guys have killed it, made the right call on the border lock downs despite being heavily challenged from the feds and down south. And now looks like you are going to take our grand final too.....possibly even brownlow.
