Default Scoop on new Magna

Any one see the Sunday Telegraph in Sydney today way back on page 42 the scoop picture of the new Magna?

Interesting it is rumoured not to be called a Magna and why the paper left it to page 42

Yeah, have heard rumours the Magna is no more and we might see a return of the Galant badge in the not too distant future. Also rumours of a forced induction sports model. But as I said, only rumours.

No more Magna.

The replacement is a modified American Galant.

MMAL reckon it is virtually the same as the US version but interior/exterior styling has been played with for the Aussie tast buds.

It is bigger than the Magna and they reckon has more leg room than the Falcon & Commodore.

It's hard to tell from a photo, but I reckon it has a similar outline to a Nissan Maxima.

MMAL plan to sell 34000 a year, Magna sales over the previuos 12 months was 17000

Yep - Drive says that Mitsubishi recently lodged paperwork to register the Galant and Galant GTVi names for use in Australia.

I've had a look of the newspaper clipping on another site and it could very well just be a US Galant mule driving round with a car-bra on - whilst MMAL were using the US Galant as the basis for the magna replacement, I wasn't expecting it to be an exact copy!

MMAL - "Mitsubishi says 70 per cent of the new car has been redesigned in comparison to the US-market PS41 Galant. Much of the effort has been directed at the interior which has drawn some criticism in the stateside model."

Here's info on the engine - its a 3.8L and in US spec delivers around 172kw but I've heard rumours of an aussie 192kw mill. Torque, yet again based on the US version of the 6G75 is 340NM.

Unfortunatley this link gives no indication to kw/nm.

AWD version also is dead.

More head and leg room than Falcon too

Interior sizes:

Wasn't the Galant the precursor to the lancer?

The Magna has so much potential if only it was rear wheel drive ,
Is this Galant Rear Wheel Drive?

I read the thread topic and was picturing Monaro scoops on a Magna :hihi:

Would be quite interesting if this new Mitsubishi is RWD!

Ther will never be a RWD Magna/Galant.

The Japanese, Asian, European & American buyers of such vehicles don't care about FWD or RWD.
A lot of people believe the FWD is safer to drive than RWD, especially in slippery conditions.
Only the performance enthusiasts love RWD, for the fun factor _2:
But have a look what these articles say;

I saw the pic of the car-bra'ed galant mule and ive gotta say, the general shape looks quite nice. They also have an ad actually showing the bodyshells of the new car in production wile that Mitsu CEO Tom Jones (Or whoever) goes on about the "better built better backed" stuff.

I think it will be a cool car, I'm looking forward to it and hope that this gets Mitsubishi Oz out of the .

The picture in the paper is a bit too small to really make it all out. From what i saw it doesnt look good to me. I dont have anything to be able to post it on here either.

Yeah I saw that, and instantly remeber all the complaints Ford got about the roof line when the AU was released, the BA has the exact same roofline but so far no complaints.

But the new Mitsi does look like being a head banger for rear passengers

Contrary to information provided by Australian amateur media sources, the correct BA Falcon interior measurements are as per previously published figures by Ford. These are:

THE REAL DIMENSIONS

Front leg room – 1086mm
Rear leg room – 980mm
Front head room – 1010mm
Rear head room – 976mm
Front shoulder room – 1513mm
Rear shoulder room – 1494mm

These figures are determined using an H-pointing machine, as per industry standard SAE J826, with the measurements calculated as per SAE J1100.

Good luck MMAL...

PICS scanned to my gallery.

http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...500&ppuser=203

8 colours available, 7 new.
Wonder if any will be "copies" of current popular ford/holden etc colours .
It's a big improvement.
I wouldn't mind seeing more of it, especially some of the "new" colours.
They had interior pics earlier in the week.

Awe never let facts get in the way of a media release masquerading as an article. More of the same from Mitsu, they keep doing the same things the same way, they'll keep getting the same results.

Word is out that this new car wont carry either the Magna or Galant badges and will be let out with the name Mitsu P76.

They don't seem to understand why the current magna doesn't sell. Toyota wins the cheap family car market with the camry because it has a 4 cylinder version and they can only compete with the base model falcons and commodores, they have nothing that can compete with the XR6, SV6 and every model above them.

Yeah those figures I posted were off the Drive article which was supposed to have quoted a MMAL press release. Rather annoying when they can't even get simple things like that right.

Also just as annoying that MMAL thinks it can get circa 190kw from a fairly lowtech SOHC 3.8. If only it was DOHC with varible timing, that would be a marvel - it would probably push over the 200kw mark too.

Looking at the side profile it looks a bit like a Camary. I suppose only time will tell if it sells or not. Most car buyers buy a brand they like so a hard core Holden would only buy Holden & same with other makes unless fuel gets totally over priced to run a larger car.

Actually the BA has a completely different roof line, its the doors and the shap of them that is identical.

The BA flattened the roof 10 mm and squared off the front and rear windshild recesses, it looks nothing like the AU. Side by side you realise how bad the AU really is.

Didn't know that.

Thought the BA had facial & butt surgery : Seriously, I thought Ford scared off the front & rear to get rid of the droopy look.

Did they drop the roofline as well or bring the front & rear glass further out at the base?

I hate high waist line on lots of new cars they never look right. Proportions still count & you need a decent sized glass house to look right
