Default Vfacts january 2016

http://www.wheelsmag.com.au/news/ind...ary-car-sales/

Not a good start for the locals -

SALES of Australian-made cars plummeted in a new-car market that grew 2.7 percent compared with the same time last year, falling just shy of its 85,430 January record, set in 2013.
Locally-produced Holdens, Fords and Toyotas accounted for only 4.9 percent of the 84,373 cars sold in January 2016, almost half of the market share Australian-made cars achieved in 2015.
For the first time ever an Australian-made car didn’t make the list of top 10 best-selling vehicles; 1242 sales for the Holden Commodore made it the top selling locally-manufactured car, enough for only 15th place.
The figures were tempered by a dismal result for the Australian-made Toyota Camry, which managed just 503 sales *– less than one-tenth the Camrys it sold in December, when it was the top-selling car.
Toyota Camry RESIZED
Put that down to some industry game playing; Toyota had a strong December by getting dealers to register sales before the cars had been bought by customers. Go shopping for a Camry now and there’s a good chance it’ll already be registered but not have been driven.
Indeed Toyota’s January result of just 12,453 (down 8.8 percent) was its worst performance since 2002, and the Toyota Corolla that has dominated the sales charts in recent years was outsold by the Mazda 3 (3722 to 2758), the top-selling vehicle in January.
Just nine months out from its planned stop of production, the Ford Falcon registered an all-time low, with just 235 cars sold – that’s only one sale more than the Porsche Macan.
It was another month to forget for Ford on the passenger car front, with the Kuga, Mondeo, Focus and EcoSport all posting poor results of fewer than 500 cars each.
Once again it was up to the Ranger to do the heavy lifting for Ford, accounting for 44 percent of the brand’s sales with 2418. The Ranger was also the top-selling ute, beating the new Toyota Hilux (2341) that had held the top position since going on sale in October.
Ford Mustang RESIZED
The American-made Mustang also provided some rare good news for Ford, with 389 sold in January to become Ford’s third best-selling passenger car (with a waiting list of more than 12 months), behind the Territory (500) and Focus (497).
Arch-rival Holden also had a disappointing start to the year, with a meagre 6824 sales for 8.1 percent of the market, relegating it to fourth on the sales charts to slip behind third-placed Hyundai (7001).
The big winner – in a now familiar trend – was Mazda, with sales up 11.2 percent and a record 11.9 percent market share.
Luxury brands carried on their buoyant 2015 results to post another record in January 2016. Audi achieved an increase of 11.3 percent with 2142 sales, ahead of BMW on 2075 (up a whopping 19.8 percent), but it was Mercedes-Benz’s continued charge at the top with 3099 sales and 19.5 percent increase to see it knock off Honda (2898) for the last spot in the Top Ten.
Lamrorghini Hurcan RESIZED
Lamborghini registered 22 sales, almost double that of Italian rival Ferrari (13), while Porsche continued its surge following a record 2015, with 490 sales giving it a 31.4 percent new-year boost.
The SUV juggernaut rolled on in January with an increase of 19.5 percent. There were 33,073 SUVs sold compared with 35,214 passenger cars, the latter dropping 11.5 percent; the artificial drop in Camry sales accounted for a large chunk of that decline.
Hyundai Tucson RESIZED
SUVs accounted for 39.2 percent of sales in January (a record high) with passenger cars down to 41.7 percent (a record low) as the gap narrows.
Hyundai had the top selling SUV with its resurgent Tucson managing 2065 sales, pipping the Mazda CX-5 (1750) that’s held the top spot in recent years.
Sales of utes – which dropped market share in 2015 – rebounded in the first month of the year. There were 12,811 utes sold, an increase of 15 percent.

September last year they say there was so much interest there would be supply issues.
4 months on plenty of them sitting at the dealers looking through car sales last week, they may need a price adjustment to get them moving.

Ford — 5504 (up 2.7%)

Lamborghini and the Ford Mustang are posting amazing sales in Australia

I'm surprised the Mustang only sold 389, supposedly being sold out for a year in advance.
Are the importing limited numbers or are they, like the Everest, and just not selling?
I really thought they'd both sell like hot cakes.

For once the perennial Ford excuse of "supply issues" is true for the Mustang.

They must be selling well in NSW, as I've see way more Everest's in the last 3 months, than I've seen FGX Falcon's in the last 12 months.

The Isuzu MU-X trounced them all, with 495 units, the new Pajero Sport finished with 356 units and then the Everest on 287 units and next the Toyota Fortuner with 274 units.

Don't know about the Colorado 7 however.

Great to see the first Mustang figures finally published! No doubt they'll increase over the coming months to fill those 4,000 orders.

Mustang is on the money. 4000 a year over 12 months is roughly 350 a month.

Holden in general did really poor. Probably a preview of what to expect once the Aussie built Commodore winds down.

Haven't seen any Everests in Rockhampton Mustangs , yes. As Spoolman said "Everest needs a price adjustment" Titanium is overpriced. Would sales improve if Trend was $59,990 drive away? New Mitsi Sport Exceed is $54,990 drive away and can tow 3100kg. Market is overcrowded.

Theres no logical link between the locall factories being closed, and buyers not buying the cars that come from there. None of the factories run the yards empty or let the dealerships empty out over the xmas period. There may be some link between it being a slow time for fleets, and a high proportion of local cars go into fleets.

Its a 13 month wait on the Mustang if you order today...
They would sell plenty more if they got there supply sorted, more of the same that plagued the Ranger for many years.

Everest starts ~$10k higher than Pajero Sport and a good ~$20k higher than MU-X (according to their respective websites), so I'd say FoA would almost be happy with those numbers considering margin they'd be getting.

Great month for Ranger!

They need to lift their game with Focus / Mondeo / Kuga / Fiesta. All great cars severely under-performing.

Would love to see the "Us vs Them" advertising carry through to those models. Mondeo vs Camry, Kuga vs Rav or CX-5 etc.

Everest pricing at Metro Ford..Could be lower with negotiation..still, $81,400 for a Titanium is a big ask..http://metroford.com.au/new-cars-bri...?model=Everest They only list one Falcon, an XR8..

As for the top sellers Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla, it is common knowledge that these two have been guilty in the past of artificially inflating sales figures in the fight for top spot by mass registering dealer stock.
Highly unlikely (but there are suggestions that it happened to the Camry from December due to drop from 5000 sales to 500 sales), as the Corolla and Mazda 3 consistently sell 3000 plus units per month (ie they arent pulling any sales forward).

Quote:
How many of these are actual genuine sales is anybody's guess, but I think they would be far lower than logic would suggest
. The consistency of the sales would suggest most are genuine sales, except the Camry.

Why do they need to adjusted anything.. In only it's 2 or 3 month on the market it is already the 3rd best selling model in class & it sells for way more than the rest.. Seems Ford got this one very much right & some can't handle this!! See below

Why is it top 15 now instead of top 10?

Personally I think it is to show Holden Commodore @ 15 still on the sale stats.

No Idea, I personally know of one.
A lot can change in 13 months in ones life and at the same if your selling your current car that needs to be timed correctly too.

If there was a red V8 Pony on the floor I reckon good chance I would be in one, The FGX isn't an option for me, sitting in one feels the same as the 2010 FG I have now, and the 2010 50th anniversary has a nicer interior finish.

Autotech have been waiting for a v8 and a 4cyl for over a year..

You can bet all the money you like. A sale is a sale. Corolla and Mazda will sell thousands next month, the month after that, and the month after that. These cars wont be sitting at the back of dealers yards, they will be in peoples garages. You can inflate figures for a month or two, you cant do it thru out the whole year.

So once the dealer registers them, what do you think they do with them? They bring them straight to the tip or something? All registering unsold cars does is move sales from one month to the next.. Over a long period of time, there is NO effect to the sales number at all!!

Will be interesting to see how/if these figures look once the Everest and Fotuner have been around for a year or so like the others.

Personally I think it is to show Holden Commodore @ 15 still on the sale stats.
Imagine if they sold 4 Commodores, it would be top 137 instead

Great work as always. The 5th last chart 'Sales by Ford model - excluding Falcon' is striking. It's the 'Ranger Car Company'.

Ranger sales rising in a lovely upward channel, but since May 13, every other model is falling to that 250-500 volume level.

Except the list is wrong - Commodore is in 16th place. They left out the Triton, which should be in 12th place with 1405 sales.

I'm actually surprised that Falcon sales aren't up this year, considering it's the final year. In the USA, in the Crown Victoria's final year, sales increased by 50%, with police departments buying up the car before production ended.
