Three US states are now over 1M cases, Texas, California and Florida with the case rates being 4,553, 3,373 and 4,772 cases per 100k respectively while mortality rates are 78, 50 and 86 per 100k.

Two other States (New York and Illinois) are over 0.5M cases with Georgia about to reach the same mark.

How can NSW Health allow these slip ups to occur? Maybe Berejiklian has other issues on her mind? Like trying to find barrels for her pigs to hide in?
Not sure where the responsibilities for that issue lays. Is it Border Force? Who gets the people coming off the plane and says "Come with me".

How does someone walk out through the customs hall and into genpop to be able to catch a taxi over to the domestic terminal? There is no domestic transfer, no international arrivals, so how is that door even open?

That would all be Federal wouldn't it?

Then there is the people themselves. No way that they didn't know what they were doing was wrong. Couldn't possibly have been a mistake. There should be a hefty fine for them.

I didn't agree with the way the Victorian govt was slammed and don't really agree with slamming NSW either.

The silence is deafening thou from Scomo, Josh and Mr Potato Head. Imagine if this came from Victoria. They'd be all over Andrews like a rash.
That is the most disappointing thing about Covid. You would of hoped Federal and State Governments would of risen over party politics for the betterment of the country..............

Premier Daniel Andrews: "Victoria has been free of locally transmitted coronavirus cases for more than a month and, with no active cases, has officially “eradicated” the virus."

Quote:

It comes as federal, NSW and Victorian authorities scramble to figure out how two overseas travellers avoided quarantine when they arrive in Sydney.

Two German travellers managed to land in Sydney and fly straight to Melbourne on a Virgin domestic flight. All passengers from Virgin flight VA838 which landed in Melbourne at 1.25pm on Saturday have been told to quarantine at home.

NSW health minister Brad Hazzard and NSW Police have promised an investigation into how the breach occurred. Questions are being raised about how NSW and federal authorities allowed the travellers to slip through the net.

Mr Andrews said the two travellers had initially tested negative for COVID, but will have to stay in quarantine in VIC for a fortnight like all international arrivals.

“They are the first, albeit inadvertent, occupants of Victoria’s reset hotel quarantine system,” he said.

The Premier did not directly criticise NSW for the quarantine bungle, but said “something has gone wrong”.

“It is for the NSW authorities to do, that and I’m very confident that when Minister Hazzard confirms there will be an investigation, that’s exactly what happen,” Mr Andrews said.

“No doubt they will get to the bottom of what has happened but there will be learnings there for all of us and we can make sure that the systems we have in place are as robust as possible.”

It’s believed an employee at Melbourne airport realised the German pair had turned up without quarantining, then reported it. Mr Andrews said the employee had done an “amazing job”.

“We are very grateful to them and hopefully they are suitably honoured by their employer and if they don’t, we certainly will,” he said.

100% agree. The failure of State/Federal politicians working together has been remarkable.

I also noted that Andrews didn't lay into NSW during his presser, he at least displays a bit of class.

During the VIC presser this morning, Sky News "journalist" Gabriela Power asked Andrews a question on Victoria's contact tracing app (Services Victoria App) which apparently had a technical issue.

https://twitter.com/Qldaah/status/1335390098632806403

Is this what they call 'good journalism'??

Meanwhile in NSW, there's corruption and scandals left and right, Visa's and citizenships being handed out for cash, pork barrelling, love affairs with corrupt politicians, not isolating when supposed to, airports and borders with an open door policy it seems, etc, etc. Why aren't these so called journalists at the Berejiklian / Hazzard pressers?

Police admit allowing international arrivals to fly from Sydney to Melbourne, breaking quarantine rules

Video....

https://www.9news.com.au/national/co...-bungle_061220

Quote:
NSW police have admitted they wrongly allowed two international passengers to fly from Sydney to Melbourne, breaking quarantine rules.

The pair, now believed to be a German woman, 53, and her 15-year-old son, landed from Tokyo at 9.45am yesterday.

But instead of being forced to do the 14-day hotel quarantine in Sydney as is required by law, they got on a plane to Melbourne.

"They had a conversation with an officer and during that conversation there has been a misunderstanding and a lack of communication and it was thought by the police officer that there was actually an exemption in place," NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Jeff Loy told reporters today.

"The officer contacted the police operations centre and confirmed what the process would be under that exemption and those people were then taken to the domestic airport in Sydney and flew to Victoria.

"Once in Victoria, it was identified at the airport that these two people did not have the appropriate exemptions and of course the system then went into place and they were taken into the quarantine operation down in Victoria.

Deputy Commissioner Loy said the whole quarantine operation has been reviewed, particularly the airport operation so that such an incident doesn't happen again.

"When you consider there are two people out of 100,000 passengers since March this year in this operation it really is outstanding," he said.
"It has been confirmed that the young boy and the woman have proved negative to COVID."

Deputy Commissioner Loy said there is no suggestion the woman and boy lied to avoid quarantine.

"There was a language barrier, there were communication issues and the police officer has admitted the mistake that he didn't check the appropriate exemption forms and the paperwork appropriately," he said.

"He's a very good officer, a fine officer and someone who is very remorseful about the mistake he's made. But that mistake has been rectified, reviewed and we'll move on."

He said no action will be taken against the tourists or the police officer.
"We've had an extensive investigation over the last 24 hours and from our inquiries it's a police mistake and we own that mistake and we move forward," he said.

"We don't propose any action against the officer."

A health alert for over 100 passengers on the Virgin Australia flight was issued, though it was later confirmed the pair have tested negative for coronavirus.

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said this morning he thought the woman and boy appeared to have disappeared from a bus queue at the airport, where passengers were waiting to be transported to hotels.

NSW police said more than 100,000 have now done hotel quarantine in NSW across 17 Sydney hotels.

Only Australian citizens and permanent residents or their immediate family are allowed entry to Australia.

Mr Andrews said a staff member they spoke to at Melbourne Airport realised something was wrong.

However, he said he didn't want to criticise NSW Health and he awaited the results of their inquiries.

"We picked it up, we are very grateful that we were able to do that, but there should be no sense of criticism by anybody in our state," he said.

The pair are now the first guests of Melbourne's resurrected quarantine hotels, with flights due to resume this week following the earlier bungles.
Andrews said they are in a hotel near the airport.............

I stress, this was just one commentator....so no proof.

Sometimes, when you are so triggered you miss the news....

Daniel Andrews says he is 'accountable for any mistakes' in Victoria's Covid-19 hotel quarantine
https://www.theguardian.com/australi...tel-quarantine

Now, if you are talking about the deaths in aged care.....well.....my cousin works for Regis, you probably don't want to know who they are quietly blaming. And since you brought it up again, BTW did anyone ever own up to the Newmarch deaths? Or is it less important because the number was 100?

Correct, its a joke these Dans got class not saying anything, the joker has no right to say anything re any State for there's mud on his face, his record is the worst so what can he say to NSW or any other State leader/Health/Police Depts throw in Secos or otherwise.
Its not about haters its about he and down the line have NO leg to stand on.
If any State has issues now or in the future they'll only be culpable IF deaths rise over Vics total at its heights, stick to your facts, you had to go through the long lockdown due to incompetence right through.

Yep. The Dan-bois point to him admitting that the buck stopped with him but even Sir Humphrey Appleby would have resigned after such galactic incompetence.

Well , to be fair, Tickford and yourself ripped the scab off again. You’ve been niggling for days...

Victoria’s incompetence dispatched 850 of our fellow Australians and damn well nearly took the rest of the nation down with them if not for the decisive and immediate action of NSW, QLD and WA.

You can’t revise that from history.

A bit more of a dive into the USA numbers.

North Dakota has the highest identified infection rate with 10,837 cases per 100k of population although South Dakota (9,446) isn't far behind. For comparative purposes, the US national average is 4,525/100k and Australia is 109/100k. Maine (975) and Vermont (779) are the two lowest and the only states below 1k/100k cases.

New Jersey has the highest mortality rate with 195 deaths per 100k population, with New York (180), Massachusetts (157), Connecticut (144) and Louisiana (141) all well above the national average of 86.95/100k (Australia is 3.5). At the other end of the scale Vermont (12.6/100k), Oregon (23.9), Utah (28.6) and North Dakota (29.8) are the only mainland states below 30/100k although Hawaii (18.5) and Alaska (19.3) are also under that number.

The third metric; case mortality rate (CMR), is really starting to look more like a measure of how well the hospital system copes with an outbreak because (as we have noted previously) the real CMR is probably somewhere around 1-2% and significant deviations from that are either based on low testing volumes (which make it look worse than it really is) or 'creative' classification of deaths (which make it look better).

That aside, the US national CMR is 1.92% which is better than our 3.248% but there are four states over 4%: Connecticut (4.03), Massachusetts (4.35), New Jersey (4.71) and New York (4.76). Conversely, there are several states below 1%: Utah (0.44), Wyoming (0.72), Nebraska (0.87), Oklahoma (0.88), Wisconsin (0.9) and Idaho (0.94).

Again on the “pop COVID” front, the news story about Dr Joseph Varon, of Texas, is that interesting conundrum of humanity vs risk.

Data valid as at 23:59 GMT December 6th, 2020.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

9 new cases for Australia and 0 deaths so the CMR drops to 3.247%. NSW recorded 5 cases with
Queensland and WA recording 2 each.

No new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.203% and active cases drop to 56.

The UK had a higher 17,271 cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore the CMR but even using their method they recorded 231 deaths.

Just over 21k new cases in the USA yesterday and 2,258 deaths sees CMR drop to 1.921% and active cases drop to 39.4% with the raw numbers rising and now over 5.9M. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global cases pass 67M with the last 1M taking 2 days;
The USA passes 15M cases;
The USA completes 207M, India 146M, Russia 79M, Italy 23M, France 21M, Indonesia 6M, Netherlands 5M and Mexico 3M tests.

It's the weekend so only -
Uruguay (338);
South Korea (631); and
Russia
(26,039)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive days.
