while this debate rages in length, here is a thought that will be discussed by the admins this weekend

Times to be recorded with relevant times and speeds
A database will be held and sorted accordingly and displayed on the forums
Regardless of Mods
Regardless of fuels
Regardless of tyres
Maybe with the ability to view times slips uploaded to gallery

Thoughts?

Sounds great Gaz, a list like that would work well. Easy to read, in order, with all the info there.

Most of us know each others cars anyway, perhaps there could be a process by where you enter your timeslip details you list mods on the car when the time was run...bit like when you click on a username

Sounds good Gaz, you should make it that you must have a copy of the timeslip(scanned) for it to be entered into the database??

So has anything further been deceided on for Heathcote as far as classes go?

I personally think Fordy got it pretty much right with this one:

Factory Stock.
Cars are to be run as purchased.
No mods with standard tyres.
Tyres can be replaced with same tyre equivalent.

Performance Street.
All bolt ons allowed incl chip, edit or other
Must stay N/A.
Must run 98 octane fuel.
Un opened engines.
Standard manifold, Oversize throttle bodies allowed.
Tyres, can run changes to equavalent ratings, NO adr or Drags (RWC Standards)
All body parts must stay intact.
No removal of exhaust components.
Aftermarket Exhaust allowed
Must run Cats.
No body mods allowed or chassis changes.
Diff/ratio change allowed but only to what Ford bring out eg my ute runs 3.23 but autos run 3.45 so thats as high as i can go.
Shift Kit allowed

Modified Street.
Street slicks and wider tyres allowed.
No body mods allowed or chassis changes.
No Cubic Engine changes in this section other than standard rebuild which retain stock internals.
Cam Changes allowed
Diff Changes allowed
Aftermarket Exhaust allowed
Must run Cats.
Must run 98 octane fuel.
Manifold change allowed
Carby/injector change allowed
Shift kit allowed
Hi stall allowed
Pro Street
Body mods allowed eg headlight, tailgates..
Full race slicks allowed
Cubic inch change allowed
Any exhaust allowed
Race fuel allowed
Open engine
Cam change
Diff/ratio change
Any engine, trans, diff combo allowed as long as its from the same facory, eg top loader into EB, yes, chev into te cortina, no.

Outlaw Street.
All mechanical restrictions removed.
No chassis changes
All forms of power adders allowed. (Turbo’s S/C NO2).

The only downfall I can see here is in "outlaw street". Naturally aspirated cars with bonnet scoops will have to run with cars that have power adders.

For example myself. I have no power adders but have body mods for CAI.

[edit] Actually there is an error in modified street? Does it
allow body mods or not? If it doesn't my comment still stands.

I'd be inclined to say bonnets scoops shouldnt be counted as a body mod. Many cars such as the XB GT had them as std.

define scoop?
The XB GT's had intakes in the bonnet going directly into the air filter (if set up that way.) Basically it operates in the same way as a bonnet scoop, shaker etc. At what point does this become so pedantic that it is unworkable?

Does putting a factory AU3 head on a factory AU1 count as changing the engine? If we want to be pedantic than we can say yes but in the end it is a part that is similar enough to make no difference.
Same applies to a scoop, shaker, etc. They are similar enough in my opinion.

To me a vent is something to let hot air out, this was not the intended function of the XB GT scoops. Their positioning is directly related to getting cold air into the manifold.

Can you explain how these sort of vents can do anything else but act as an intake for cool air? Sheer physics of air movement say air will go in , not out, in a forward moving XB. That, and the position of the intakes directly in front of the air cleaner can only ever act as a cold air intake.

I have even seen one in Geelong (Shane knows it well) that has had the air filter modified to directly suck air in from these intakes.

Caspers right on the money, they are scoops, not vents. If you can find a way to make your hot air shoot out of a forward facing vent while air rushes past it in the opposite direction at 60kph id love to know how. If it was rear facing, then it would be considered a vent.

Dunno about you Alex, but I always assumed the scoops on the XB / XC were designed to feed air into the engine as the car moves forward, hence them being pumbed up in the 1971 Mustang when fitted with RAM-AIR (tm) option. I don't think the sticker on the side said BLOW-AIR (tm).

Sorry also forgot to mention these NASA scoops intention was soley to cool the engine down and whilst stationery they would allow heat to exit from the engine as we all know hot air rises :MrT_anim:
