Toyota must have a shed load of those mirror mounts... Very 1923.

The current HiLux is gaining an electrified 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four in the first half of 2024, featuring a 48V mild-hybrid system and a six-speed automatic transmission. That suggests the next-gen model will also feature mild-hybrid assistance.
Mild hybrids are junk - what do you hope to achieve with 48V electrical architecture.

Should be nice and easy to work on too given its half the engine it used to have, I reckon this is gonna be the new mining favorite for fleets.

Less fuel, better power and torque, easier (and cheaper) to maintain and auto so even the window lickers on the short bus can drive it.

Id own a V8 79 series no problems.
My cousin has a Dual cab 79 V8. Took it to WA from the east coast, not one issue.
I must be one of the 'few' that like em.
That facelift though i dunno

They put a derated 2.8 into the Coaster bus (which tares at 3.7t and gvms at over 5t) so I dont think the engine in the LC will be all that bad.
The V8 70 series we have at work is 2.7t with just a bullbar and steel tray.

My concern is that engines and power trains in newer vehicles are really made down to prices
And now don’t last like previous generations.

Woe begets someone looking to keep something like a Ranger for more than 8 to 10 years if they get stuck with premature engine or transmission failure. Maybe that’s why so many late models end up in wreckers for parts, one good smash or failure and not worth repairing?

Asking as someone wilfully disconnected from everyday media chatter - what are people in Australia generally calling this category? Trucks, utes, pickups? Americanisms seem to continue their inexorable creep, so I’m curious.

I was speaking to a Polestar dealer rep and he was mentioning that it will last longer than a internal combustion vehicle because it has less moving parts.
I said will it still be around in 35 years like my mother's 626 that is still regularly driven? He didn't answer

Sounds like it might be already happening with court cases over the 2.5l in the Escape Hybrids having block breaches , then igniting the battery and burning to the ground.....not a good look

Sort of like I had an electrical fault when the Conrod knocked the distributor off

No, has nothing to do with the batteries, it’s actually to do with rods out the block engine failure causing a serious engine bay fire that quickly spreads. Hybrid and PHEV batteries are located under the U.S. front passenger seat.

The battery fire you’re thinking of is another separate issue, not necessarily on these models…

It’s currently a law suit brought by six owners….

Never said it was anything to do with the batteries , but I did think they were talking about the same issue .....not another one

You said, “ then igniting batteries and burning to the ground”

With respect, you’re conflating two things - the under hood temperature is the issue with hybrids
Thermal runaway is a battery issue in BEVs with much bigger batteries.

The batteries in C2 hybrids are mounted under the front right seat.

Ford's unprecedented plan to fast-track Ranger, Everest deliveries -

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...est-deliveries

This all sounds good, but..................

"The quarantine crisis on Australian docks has now been running for more than a year, despite counter-measures including a dedicated onshore processing facility in Melbourne. Apart from the onshore delays in processing and treatment, many ships have been forced to wait for their place in the docking queue."

Isn't it 292KW? Or do they get some limp wristed 292HP version?

What an absolute joke, I reckon tuning companies over there are going to be very surprised when they remove the massive cork on the Euro Ranger Raptor.

Also has anyone reviewed the new Amarok Ecoboost yet or is everyone still reviewing the 3L V6 variant that the Ranger also offers?

Can't complain about that, gets a positive review, is circa 1.5-2 seconds faster to 100 than the V6 diesel.
