Continental ContiSportContact 5 (OEM)
Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2
Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3 (my first choice at the moment, but I've read reviews saying that its predecessor is better)
Pirelli P Zero (PZ4)
Michelin Pilot Sport 4
Michelin Primacy 3
Out of that list, I'd go with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.... The latest and they are a step up from the Michelin Primacy 3's.

You might also want to consider the Michelin Pilot Super Sports which are a step up from the Pilot Sport 4. The Pilot Super Sports has also been replaced by the Pilot Sport 4S's but you cannot fit them on your car as they currently only range them for 19-inch wheels and above.
The Michelins have the best tyre wear rating, with the Super Sports rated at a 300 wear rating and will last you the longest.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - Great tyre, especially in the wet, but only got 35,000 Kms out of them on my XR6T.

Pirelli P Zero - Also a great tyre but they don't last long as well.

I've had multiple sets of PS3 and currently on PS4 17" and like them very much, my Father having the MD titanium ecoboost has replaced his CCSC5 to PS4 18" and likes the change it'd made to the MD. We both had Primacy in mind for it's comfort bias but they're never on sale up here FNQ, where as PS4 can be had with $100 off if buying 4 quite often, as opposed to $180ea in 17" or $230ea?!? in 18"

Another one to consider is the Maxxis Primetra HP5. I have them on my Mondeo, have lasted well (done 10k with little sign of wear) grip well in the wet and dry and are quiet. WHEELS magazine rated them top in their recent tyre test against some from your list - best dry and wet braking as well as top scores in all other categories. They are also cheaper and have a long warranty. Just a suggestion anyway.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I will now shop around for prices. $230 for PS4 is a steal, if I can get it for that price, then definitely. My budget is around $300 per tyre, so I'll have to see what I can pick up for that price.

I've recently replaced my original Primacy tyres with Michelin PS4's.

Think they're much better suited to the Mondeo with much less wheelspin if you are accelerating fast from a standstill being front wheel drive and a large car.

Have found after 5000 kms they do emit more of an audible hum compared to the Primacys so if your after the ultimate in quietness I'd probably give these a miss.

I got 4 tyres for $1050 including balancing and nitrogen as well during their $100 off four tyres promotion.

Also worth considering how the new tyres will match the existing Contis. If the other pair still has a decent amount of tread left, then it might be worth fitting another pair. I assume it's the fronts that need replacing?

I've had a set of Primacy 3 ST tyres on the MB for about 40,000 km. Maybe half worn, great grip and reasonably quiet on chip seal. Not a sports tyre, but they work well on the 16" wheels that were standard on the MB wagon.

I've got a set of Kumho KU39 in the garage waiting to go on my MC wagon. Bought online a few months ago from Tyroola for $116ea delivered and will get my mechanic to fit at next service.

They're probably not the best performing tyre, but seems like good value for money.

Currently have Kumho HS51 which were on the car when I bought it 30kkm ago.

I'm running Nexen n'fera su1's at the moment.
Seem OK so far. Not too much wheel spin on take-off, and coped OK with the Tenterfield to Casino Road fairly well. A bit of squeal, but overall, not bad.
I think I got them for under $200 each.

Thanks all for sharing. I will be in the market for new tyres myself at some point to replace the current Michelin Primacy HP tyres. They were on the car when I bought it and I noted at the time they were moderately worn, but two years and 20,000km later they're still going

The spare alloy wheel I managed to source has a new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A on it. I was thinking of getting three more of those, and keeping one of my old Michelins as the spare (hoping it might fit in the spare wheel well a little better). But looking online today it seems that three Potenzas will set me back the same amount that four Michelin Pilot Sport 4 would - have to hope they might go on sale.

I just installed four Michelin Pilot Sport 4's from Costco in Canberra yesterday.
Total cost for all four plus fitting was $999. 235/45 18's
Free rotation at 10,000km, free puncture repairs, filled with nitrogen - not bad at all!

The original Continental's had done 27,000km - and were well and truly gone.

Have been running PS4's for two days now - and they are really like wearing a new pair of shoes - strange how different one tyre set can feel to the next.

They certainly do appear to be very much quieter than the worn Continentals.
