Ash has certainly made some good points with the support of J3. While it's still new to the market, people who go with J3 are relying the tuner to know what they are doing to fine tune the process as well as the limited support that is provided with trial and error from other DIY tuners.

Unfortunately until I get my company car, the AU is my daily driver and I cannot risk a dodgy tune based on limitations of what the software can do as opposed to Sniper or SCT, assuming what Ash says is true.

I have yet to speak to Bruce about it, and intend on doing so today to get his opinion on the matter. If Bruce reflects the same thoughts as Ash, I will know the next option to go with.

I don't know how someone could stuff up a tune on a j3 if your current tune was used as a starting point. I'd suggest if someone can't retune a car when the only change is a small difference in exhaust size they should reconsider what they do every day.

The j3 isn't the limitation in this situation, it's the tuner.

Thanks Barry. I see what you saying.

I spoke to my regular mechanic today, he has assured me it CAN be done on a J3, and that he has access to a dyno to do it. But needs a complete list of mods that have been done on the car to assist the tune. I would probably need the full house tune package to do it.

Another thought though to get around the flat spot issue is this: fit a small stall converter to flash past the flat spot area. I know of a member that has one that I have emphasized interest for but that probably wont happen till early next year.

Any thoughts?

PS. Sorry Rob for hijacking your thread too. LOL

haha. Thanks mate.

It's currently dirty as hell at the moment. We've had intermittent rain here, sunny one day, rain the next. This weekend will be a full clean inside and out. If weather permits, I'll take some fresh pics.

As for the tuning, I think I'm gonna wait till next year after I get my company car, save some more cash, and do exhaust at same time.

In the mean time Im gonna try something different. Im gonna see if the fitment of the stall converter helps with the low end flat spot. Perhaps, just perhaps this may cover over any issue there. Plus it will be cheaper than tuning right about now.

Yeah a stall helps heaps, they're great. Use a bit more fuel remember. I think the tci i'm using is perfect for what you need it for

I'm trying to keep things on a tight budget at the moment. Got dibs on a modified stock stall. Been flashed from standard 2000rpm to 2400rpm. Getting it real cheap. Too hard to pass up. I'll live with the extra fuel usage.

Thinking that when the car gets the software update, I'll not bother with E85. Still a PITA to find a pump, and I have to consistently plan when/where I fill up.

Means less power, but if exhaust goes on, could mean same sort of power with just 98.

Not as yet Dave. I intend on going the J3 with my mechanic who has the avenue to use a dyno and some equipment. probably tackle it after I fit my stall converter in the new year. I want to do the stall first to see if that helps my situation. Failing that, exhaust and J3 is the next go. I'll use the tune thats on the ecu at the moment via an EEC reader and get the mechanic to tweak it with the use of the dyno.

For me this wont happen till Jan-Feb.
