Ahh ok, was talking about it with my mate (who runs a bottle shop department) and I was saying how the Carls was from Thailand when I was living in Singapore and he said it was as well here.

Carlsberg is brewed under license in Thailand by Chang for the Thai and other Asian markets. I don't think we got any from Thailand here in Australia, however.

He he he, I knows what I likes.

Bought a 6 pack at Dan Murphy's last night when I picked up another slab of VB. The stuff was on special and is called Platinum Blonde, brewed by Six Star Breweries. Not half bad, tastes very Euro.

Six Star Breweries is owned by Woolworths/Dan Murphys. I've not allowed myself to follow the herd into the Low Carb beers. The only one I can take is Hahn's Super Dry, which I don't mind, but I can't stand Pure Blonde. I'm obviously not metro enough, partly because I can't fit into my Mrs's jeans, which it looks like many of their younger drinkers do.

As far as I know, the Platinum Blonde is only the beginning of an wider roll out of Woolworth's own brand beer before the Coles group does the same with their own House Brewery.

In that case this is the first and last of that I buy, I am anti-supermarket chain in house brands.

You and me both. I'll just wait till the Aldi beer. Or the Franklins one. Made with the Yeast that Kraft rejected.

I'll just stick with the independents. I've got a Little Creatures Pilsner in front of me. Magnificent drop. Not quite a Squires, but not bad.

Platinum Blonde, sounds like Tasman Ice, Tasman Bitter and Hammer & Tongs all over again. Something special from the Woolworths master brewers : . There are not to many beers I would rate below crown larger & VB but the 2 Tasman would be on the list. I was never tempted to try H&T after the first 2 efforts from Woolworths.

Still all they need to do it add a catchy tune, a gold label + $50 for a slab, make a funny add, call it premium and it has to be a winner, just like VB, Crown Larger, Hahn Super, Tooheys, XXXX gold, etc.

Don't we all drink beer due to all the above and not for the taste?

JS, Little Creatures, Coopers, Mountain Goat for me. Now they are some great Australian brewers.

Cheers
Mark

Little Creatures Pilsner is a brilliant drop indeed. I personally like it better than the squires, although I'm quite partial to squires though.

Our local Aldi doesnt.

Hmmm, a mate of mine works there tho, maybe he might know of where to get some cheap and nasty booze.

Mind you, I'm also a serial Aldi shopper, and I'm 95% of the time incredibly impressed with the quality. I wonder if that follows through to their alcoholic beveridge line...

I bought a $3.99 bottle of Merlot, wasn't too bad but wasn't the best either.

For the wine drinkers who aren't big beer drinkers, you could try Knappsteins Reserve Lager. It's made using Nelson Sauvin hops (from Nelson NZ I believe, bro... choice!) which gives it grape like flavours, in particular Sauvignon Blanc.

Finally tried the XXXX Carbine Stout recently at the XXXX Alehouse at the brewery. Was expecting it to be a bit average run of the mill, as I've never been a big stout drinker but it was very very drinkable. Pity they're going to stop making it shortly :(

I see why I missed it now - its only in Victoria and the ACT. Not in New South Wales.

They have some interesting brands by the looks of them.

I'm a usual tooey's new drinker. but other favourites would be Corona, Stella Atois, Carlton Coldies, but a big favourite of mine is alcoholic ginger beer my cousins had The Beer Factory in Sydney's west(Seven Hills) make them about 100 bottles of this stuff - no preservatives or anything and this ginger beer is so good i drank most of the eski they brought over hehehwell it was a wine tasting at my house, best excuse to drink hehe) its about 6% alch

its cheap too, pretty much ends up being $1-1.50 per bottle, but you have to supply the bottles. they mix it, brew it and then you just gotta keep it in the fridge(MUST keep it cool)because theres no preservatives in there if it reaches above 23-25degC the bottles will explode from the yeast.

I had a 6 pack of that recently, got it in a deal from Dan's. A 6 of that and a 6 of VB for $20. I liked it, even though it's cheap it's definitely not nasty.

I got whole carton for $29. I didnt think that was too bad considering.

One of my german friends told me they sell that beer in Germany from as little as 30c a bottle. Its considered inferior beer and no one there drinks it. Thats why it gets imported.

If this beer is garbage to them, Id LOVE to know what their premium beer is like. :

The Pilsner was my beer of choice for a while. The problem with Squires is the price, which, for some can be justified, but if you're like me and buy your beer on special, it gets hard to fork over ~$55 for a case. That being said, their beers are excellent. I'd buy their Pilsner in a heart beat if it was the same price/case as Cascade Premium. Golden Ale is a nice drop too.

I'll drink anything as long it's free and doesn't have Coopers or Pale Ale on the label.

It has to be made in Australia too, otherwise i might as well just drink from my Puratap.
