Just got back today from a trip to the VIC/NSW border and back for Easter with driving around in between.
Total would've been near 600kms total. Average with 394rwkw (637hp) in my FG was 9.9L per 100kms. They can be really economical ![]() ![]() Jack

Good thread!
I did a road trip from Melbourne to Canberra, the trip there and back I filled up twice. I cant believe I paid 98 cents for LPG in the ACT but what can ya do. So to go from the ACT to VIC, with the AU loaded and 4 people I spent $63 one way. All up I spent something like $150 for the 4 days we where away, ~1500kms. The Hume is so easy its ridiculous...just wish it had a higher limit!

My EL Fairmont Ghia was showing between 7-9L/100km on the instant readout when I was driving it home when I first bought it. I haven't calculated it manually yet as its only been driven once to my house and that was it.
Though, I have used about 45L idling it in my driveway, lol. |

4 people, each with a heavy bag, very steep hill, 90kmh+, WOT made it shoot up into the 90s very quickly. Don't know how accurate it is. That same car shows an average of 8.5L Ah the things you do while bored on a country highway. |

Last year we did cambelltown to Melbourne on one tank in a fg ute. That ended up being about 850 odd Kms.

My old BF XR8 sed 6 man was pretty good on the motion lotion
Filled up at BP North Lakes and got all the way to Raymond Tce on 1 tank mind you it was winter and all night driving and the Cruise Control was always on all the way down the Pac Hwy - that droped it down to under 8l 100kms The FG GT I have has great economy driving it like Miss Daisy around town it is in the high 11 to low 12 and a run on the freeway it drops to about 9 - freak of a car even doing the FPV drive day and flogging the ring gear out of it it only went to 14

The best part is pulling away with ease from the Mazda owners struggling to get up a hill on the highway with a packed car...

My modded 5.4 FG GT will do 8.5 litres per hundred on a long flat trip... Not bad for a car putting out over 300kw!!
Around town the worse it gets is about 14.5.

I've kept an Excel spreadsheet of the overall fuel consumption of my FG XR50 manual since delivery in Oct 2010, 31261 kms travelled to the last fill. Usage including peak hour traffic to the city (Melbourne) 5 days per week, not just a trip in the country.
Overall average = 9.46 lt/100km. ![]() |

Some good economy figure none the less
But whats mosts average over the year ??? I mean i can coast in angel gear to get good economy if i wanted figures to look good But i prefer to realistically put the boot in when i have to We have as a runabout a hyundie 4potter,auto (it was free)it uses on average as much as a 4L falcon or territory So the myth that 4 potters are cheap compared to 6s is just that a myth I know what id rather drive and it aint the hyundie |

I'm getting 9.6l/100km overall, combined highway/city driving in an FG R6 6spd manual-which means I can get from home (north of Adelaide) to Melbourne on a tank without the orange light showing.

In used to own a mid sized 2.4 Nissan Bluebird 1993-97 that achieved similar consumption. Your data show just how much large rear drive aussie cars have improved, a fact that seems lost on many critics. Your data is one of many I know of to validate this.

Best I got was Sydney to home 800km on a tank in my zj fairlane 4.9 v8 normally around 400km that's for a 80l tank.
My xr8 au2 used to get around 800km when I had the twin system exhaust now around 640km with single 3in system. Around town about 350 for 60l of fuel that's at 50km per hour tops stop starts and only 4 km trips. |

That's all great and everything getting 7-9 l per 100 in large petrol cars but to be fair both Commodores and Falcon have been able to do that since at least the early 90s.
You need to be running 3-5l per 100 in small cars and 6 in a large car to sell them now. |

Since having my Mirage, I've been talking to a lot of Lancer guys, even the newer Lancers are getting high 9's to 10's L/100kms. I reckon anyone with the much bigger and roomier Falcon that's getting similar economy should be laughing, I know what I'd rather
![]() @Cuyper, 3-5L is hybrid territory, so non hybrid, you'd have to be pussy footing like your driving Miss Daisy do that that milage, one of my mates has a Camry hybrid his lowest is 4.1, but averages 5.1, Prius would be a little better being a smaller car. Even my little Mirage was averaging 7.2 when I was a stock 68kw1.5L, now that it's a 1.8 with 3X the power, it's only crept up to 7.7L/100, which I'm pretty happy with. ![]()

I'm averaging 7.4 in the Skoda on about 50/50 urban/free- or highway driving.
