When you know that Cairns to Port road it is the BEST we use to do it in 20-30mins and OMG!!!!

The great ocean rd isn't bad i personally just feel theres too many REALLY sharp corners and towns so you never really get a flow on if that makes sense....

In terms of a stretch of Road I always find it hard to go past the GOR. I was born and bread in Geelong and having the GOR on my doorstep definitely helped to secure a special spot in my heart for it. The 80km speed limits and busyness of it through the best parts of the year are a bit of a downer, but don't detract from the road itself, or my appreciation of it when I drive on it.

Having recently driven from Adelaide to Mt Hotham I have a new found appreciation for the Great Alpine Road. Unfortunately didn't get the time to drive right through to Bairnsdale, would have loved to, but I heard the best part of it is finsihed when you get to Bright anyway.

As for roads I'm used to driving on, as mentioned before there are so many great roads in the Adelaide Hills. I'm nestled right in amongst the Adelaide Hills and Mount Barker is central to so many of the best roads the hills has to offer.

Lobethal-Adelaide Rd would have to be the windiest and tightest road I've been on. Gorge Rd from Athelstone to Cudlee Creek isn't far behind. Angus River sceninc drive from Strathalbyn to Aldgate is a slightly more relaxed, and very secenic route which is an enjoyable one with the Family. Another one that's good to take interstaters on is Greenhill Rd from Balhannah to the City as it offers great views of the City and the beach. But my favourite Road in the Adleaide Hills would have to be Torrens Valley scenic drive, the strech from Gumeracha to Tea Tree Gully is just so awesome driving next to the Millbrook reservior.

Hey don't go giving away my secret spot!!!! (well it ain't that secret but anyway....)

Best thing about mt nebo road is the surface....it is virtually all high grip stuff right out until past nebo village. And yes it is very windy in parts. Best bit it is fun in a range of cars, even hire cars if you know what i mean.... THere are open bits but it ain't about horsepower it is about handling which is great if you have a basic 4sp gli like me.....

Been up that road so many times in so many cars. Seen a few accidents (aftermath). McAfees lookout was a great spot to take the chicks years ago. best fun on that road was a volvo 242 gt I had. They had the best fade free 4 piston brakes back in their day. I guess if I drove one today, I'd be disappointed.

I faded a Saab 9000 Aero's brakes back to nothing on that road.

I scared myself in an eb xr6 manual in the wet on that road.

I cramped up driving an valiant charger up there.

Yeah good one....i walked into that didn't I LOL!

What i meant is that you don't have to be packing big grunt like some of you guys to enjoy yourself. I've run up nebo in hatchback hire cars and had fun...it has a nice mix of corners and is good condition for most of it.

As for my Gli, well its no ferrari, but it does a better job than most...i hope. Otherwise i might as well not bothered with those mods hey..... Besides, if you check out my sig you can see it is basically an XR underneath....they are the fast ones aren't they....

Great piece of road that. Wheels magazine did a shoot of a merc cls up FNQ a few years ago and said that was the 'second best coast road in australia', we all know what the best one is...

Problem is the cook highway is blighted by too much tourist traffic IMO. The view is also too good to just drive past, its a picturesque part of the FNQ coast and worth a look for that reason alone. Still, it is a nice piece of road, good condition and pretty fast in places too.

one of my favorites is the princes hwy between orbost and eden. through the forrests. great road, not much traffic.
Another good one short but very sweet is the back rd between dalyston (bass hwy) and grantville. as you are heading towards phillip island, turn left at the lights in grantville and make your way towards wonthaggi.

I would have to agree with this piece of Rd. I normally kick off on the Blackbird and do the run up, Bells Line of Rd and turn off at Bell and head up to Mt Vic, then do the run out through Oberon. Some the run has some nice twisty bit and some big open sweepers, which the Blackbird loves. There are some nice small pubs out in the boonies which are great for a feed and a lunch time ale.



I still enjoy the Putty it around 15 odd k's from my place via Comleroy Rd Kurrajong. It has a few twisties to start off with, then hits a heap of long sweepers then back to the twisties. I normally do the run mid week, when there is bugger all traffic and you can really open up the throttle.

There is definitely a few here I can vouch for.

The Great Ocean Road is a classic.

The drive from Blackwood to Woodend is very nice.

And the Apollo Bay ranges, Cape Otway, is a nice drive off of the Great Ocean Raod

The Royal National Park is my backyard playground. Daylight savings, weeknight, no traffic. Go after work. Mmmmm

Yeah a bit short though, so when I have time I keep going through Otford, down the Grand Pacific Drive across the Seacliff Bridge, down to Bulli, Northern Distributor to F6 (road, not the car! - make a nice photo though under the road sign...), through Albion Park Rail to Dunmore, chuck a right and head up to Jamberoo and up Jamberoo Mountain pass. Sweet - but watch oncoming traffic. The road is only a bit over 3m wide with sheer cliff one side, and sheer drop the other. Come out up the top near the Roberston Pie Shop - yum - then back down Macquarie Pass.

Hell yeah! Have been meaning to do a highlight vid of that for a while. My little bro is a cameraman with some good equipment so it will be good!

Brown Mountain/Kings Highway from Batemans to Braidwood is good when its quiet. Have had some fun on that mountain - watch out for 'Pooh Bear Corner'.

The pass up west from Bega is good too.

We are pretty well blessed with some good roads here in Aus. Time it right and have fun!

Been all over Australia. So many to pick from!

The drive from Port Augusta to Quorn is quite a good mix. Starts flat with views of the Flinders Ranges one side and Spencer Gulf on the other. It then goes through the Pichi Richi Pass which has views of the gorge, creek and railwayline. It then open out a little and has a mixture of open paddocks with woodlands. It's dotted with old stone buildings and in winter when it green, it's a great place for photography.

GOR is nice, especially if you include a drive thru the Ottway Ranges.

Anywhere apart from NSW. Victoria's GOR is goos but as many people have said over crowded. Another problem is v8, wet and GOR. But really as long as there is little traffic it suits me.

Another regular weeknight RNP driver here! Although usually I'll turn back at Stanwell Tops. If its late night on a weekend, continue down to the lighthouse, roads through northern Wollongong are ok, just watch out for drunk yobs stumbling out of the pubs along the road. Macquarie Pass is for special occasions. You really need to give it respect. Even in the Foc I get unprovoked oversteer going downhill.

I'll put in another vote for the Gillies range up in Cairns. I usually ride it on my bike once every couple of weeks. The Captain Cook Hwy is good but too many tourists that can't drive.

One road in SA that probably hasn't been mentioned, so many people focusing on the Hills...

Take the Sturt Highway and head North. Bit boring to begin with, but once you hit Waikerie and the Murray it get's nice and scenic. Waikerie, Bamera and Berri. Some nice scenery out that way. It's boring as bat droppings past Berri though, especially the stretch between Renmark and Mildura.

Back to the Hills though. I did the Gorge Road drive on Sunday. Pity I was towing a trailer and the wife was in the car... Would love to do that in the Peugeot one day and see how fun it really is.
Another good hills towns to go through is Kersbrook via Chain of Ponds. Nice little drive that.

One other that I do regularly is from Angaston to Murray Bridge via Eden Valley, Springton, Mt Pleasant, Tungkillo, Palmer. If you do it, stop and see the Polar bear shaped rock out near Palmer.
