In this case age excess does not apply as I was not driving the vehicle, this is a new excess just car insurance has added which I had not even noticed on my new policy (renewed in November) It is $800 more as the car is considered high performance or modified. If you are with them you probably have it on your policy too. A bit of bad luck on a few fronts really.

I should clarify my previous comment - I was referring to the insurance company interpretation, not making the claim (that is what insurance is for)

Sorry to see the bad news Dave.
Surely the cost of repairs is more than the excess? Also your insurer should provide you with a warrenty that the repairer may not! Good luck mate.

I need to send this to my wife. The backyard in our rental property is covered in gum trees. I'm paranoid about them falling on either my AU ute, SV8 or Dodge Phoenix. My wife thinks I'm being stupid. Even yesterday we went to the flix and I refuled to park under a tree in the ute .. I parked two spots down out in the sun. Rather take my chances with the sun than the trees ..
Good luck with the repairs. |

A gum tree wrote off my last car. Huge branch fell and leveled the roof with the bonnet and boot. I hope it works out for you.

The gum trees certainly hate the dry HOT weather we had up here over the New Year.
That hot wind on Sunday was killer. |

I just hope it all gets sorted out promptly for you. Personally a tree falling on my car would be my good graces (so long as nobody gets hurt of course). It's worth more on insurance than what I could ever sell it for lol! |

Not everybody that smokes cigarettes dies from cancer. So not everybody who parks or camps under a gum tree will have a branch fall on them. The intention of my previous post was to highlight how many people were unaware of the potential danger of gum trees, not to deride the unfortunate owner of the damaged vehicle (as some people on this forum have accused me).
