I think Kia want this car to be wearing its badge with pride. show the naysayers what they can produce.
The Irony is Mustang hasn't worn the Ford badge since about 2005.

Here is me thinking this will be a 1450 to 1500 KG class car !
The 2 litre would be more than enough with that weight.

If this car is as heavy as these figures suggest, you may need the torque of the V6 to shift this "weight" with any authority / urgency.
Weight is unclear at the moment, but thats because theres 2.0 Turbo, 3.0 twin turbo, a diesel.

Then theres AWD and RWD

Then theres LSD and no LSD

theres lots of combinations/specs that different markets will be receiving - and that would ultimate effect the weight figures

We'll just have to wait and see who takes what to find out these final figures

Getting dropped and not designed for RHD which is why the Australian Genesis never got it

KIA have some of the better looking cars on the road imo, so models like this will certainly help the all important street/badge cred with buyers.
Agreed I wouldn't be surprised if the top spec was around $70K. They do throw a lot of kit into their cars. Lower specs though I suggest would start around $45K

Yes I think it was a convenient placeholder for the Ford badge which would be stuck there when car was being shipped to an export market. Who knows, maybe Ford badge will be a popular mod for the Kia Stinger, like those who are too ashamed of the lame lion and stick a Chev bowtie there instead

My Falcon will go with me to the grave, that being said I could definitely see one of these alongside it in the garage in a few years.

However there's no way I would pay $70k for one. That's Mustang V8 territory and I think that is way overpriced for what you get.
As the OP says, pricing will be critical for this car.

I agree- my Falcon is a keeper. In a few years it will retire to stud weekend duties.

When in 4 years odd I seek a daily, for $70,000 I would look at a small blown 6 BMW.

For a Kia, a V6, would need to be round $50,000 odd for me to look at.

Think of it this way, a Falcon FGX XR8 with 5 litre v8 quad cam with brembos with FPV R spec suspension and Ford heritage was $53,000 plus on roads.

$70,000 for a v6 Kia - tell them they are dreamin.....

The Kia dealer I had a chat to about it (and I only spoke about the Twin Turbo V6 one as that's the only one I would get) and he reckons that Kia Australia is talking low $50k + ORC.. Obviously its all hearsay but its something.. That's for the one with all the fruit as well.. Would be cool if they did a lower spec one with the V6 for those who don't care about panoramic sunroofs, big stereo's, etc but want the good motor.. Apparently not but you never know...

Will the Stinger have the heart, soul and heritage of the V8 Commodore or V8/i6T Falcon?? No, of course it wont but the reality is that they are nearly a thing of the past in show rooms..... If the stinger drives and goes half as good as it looks then bring it on.. Less than $60k performance car that looks **** hot but yet still has a 7 year warranty and fixed priced servicing... Bring that **** on.. Kia badge or Not.... If it does well in show rooms, who knows what will come next.. Bigger power, V8 versions, etc etc...

Ford won't?

Edit
Was just about to post this then realized @assagaai was on the mark in his post.
FGX XR8 @ $53000 compared to the Holden GTS whatever it is, was $85000ish and was selling for $100000 plus.( from whar I've read on here)

Maybe Ford should stick to selling commercial vehicles?

Is the brand too badly tainted? And if so, from what?

G'day ...I remember back a couple of decades ago when JMC , our local Ford dealer , originally Jackson Ford (Launceston) started selling Kia 's...I was thinking the same thing.. a bit of a resemblance to the famous ol' Blue Oval....at the time I thought maybe ford had done a "Mazda" and planned on rebadging or something...remember the 323/Laser and 626/Telstar etc ...Now it's Ford local all gone and Kia coming up with RWD that will soon be just memories for us other than the cars we already have.
JMC (Jackson Motor Company) are a motor group selling new multiple brands like other places and other retail services because being a stand alone Ford dealership would not make any sense especially in small States like Tasmania...Here's JMC , a dedicated Ford dealer (once)...Not any more.. They sell new Ford , Audi , Isuzu , Kia , Mitsubishi, Subaru and VW , travel , Real Estate , Tourist development etc etc.. .http://www.jmc.com.au/about/overview/

In looking at what they sell the Optima for I now think they wont be $70K but between $40 and $60K depending on specs. They could try to test the market and see how much someone is willing to pay for a Kia, which could be interesting.

Kia are very aware that pricing will be crucial to the Stinger's success in Australia. The company has commented that while they are not expecting Commodore like sales numbers, the Stinger is in a unique position to take advantage of the demise of Falcon/Commodore and that they will price it accordingly. They want to use this vehicle as a poster child for the brand.

If you look at the Optima being priced from 30k to 45k, the Stinger could be priced from 40k for the 4 cylinder turbo, ranging to 50-55k for the V6T.

I never even knew about this car until yesterday. While my next car purchase is a minimum year away, I was likely going to replace my XR8 with a Mustang (was going to get the Mustang instead of the XR8 but the waiting list was too long by the time I added my name).

I think this car may nudge out the Mustang for me. I'll be very keen to look at it when it gets here.

Never knew this existed till this thread. Awesome as! Good on them for taking up the slack and making something more interesting. It looks pretty good for a modern car, inside aswell is nice and not too busy. Pity just 4cyl and V6. I get that they can fit a v6 into anything but the nature of a v6 just makes it a total nightmare to work on. But considering theres a 7 year warranty, itll sit north south in the bay and most people nowadays dont bother with DIY it wouldnt be too bad at all! Seems to go damn hard so hey i can get over that! (But would prefer a v8 option. Or even turbo v8 if they can make an 8 as small as the 6 and make the 6 turbo gear fit)

Kia/Hyundai group have done some good things latley....good work guys.

Anyone remember the B4 Subaru? Toyota Aristo? Both with twin turbo engines that gave adequate power down low and then really got going if you spun them up!

Would be good if this Kia V6 is a similar 'dual stage' twin turbo. Even in auto that never gets old!

About time you abandoned the dark ages and got behind the wheel of a modern auto. Converter losses are negligible these days and (typically) the best 0-100 times are delivered by the auto not to mention that the better ones are very good at adapting to driving styles and generally offer a degree of manual control.

Miss 1: Early indications are $50-54k for the V6 and if you thought it was going to be any less then you were dreaming. The 4T will likely be about where you expected the V6 to be.

Miss 2: Initial testing shows it at 4.9 0-100 in RWD form which is the version we will get.

I guess we'll have to wait and see independent test figures / data, but I for one doubt claims set by most manufacturers (many examples out there, Nissan GTR, BMW's, VW's, even Kia itself claiming the the Optima GT does 0-100 in 7.3, but in reality it did 8.56 and a 16.44 quarter (see below) - as fast as a 20 year old falcon).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0QqVgev6bA

Maybe the Stinger will do a 6-flat to 100, but happy to be proven wrong, we'll wait and see.

Surprising to see the stinger is 1mm wider than FG, but has a heap less shoulder room.

I guess they have gone for the more sporty sloped in side look at the expense of practicality. it is a sports car after all
so less of that appliance look
