That thread on GMI is old, based on speculation back when GM were still trying to make a business case for another Zeta car in the US

And I'm not talking about the cop car either

Nah its from Monday two days ago. The source is Chevrolet documents and insiders, Commodore SS has been approved for sale in 2013 after the VF refresh. It has been given an internal GM North American model code Z2SC. Holden sources have also comfirmed it.

What is interesting is that its possible ute will launch at the same time as the sedan as a modern day El-Camino. Sportwagon is possible for later 2013.

Basically sedan is happening and the ute and wagon are possible.

Oh, it must be true then. Holden would never dream up exotic export deals to try and wean more money out of the government.

Well it didnt really bomb did it, after all Holden only had to write off $200 million for the G8 program. Losing $200 million a year is just a normal year for Holden.

I do find it rather funny when people think anyone is going to make money exporting cars from australia. One just has to look at the FCAI website

http://www.fcai.com.au/sales/monthly-production-volumes

to see the very low production numbers currently coming out of the three manufacturers. February 2011 figures were a shocker, and this is mostly being bought about by the high aussie dollar and a severe drop in exports.

Well if you remember GM's original plan was to export from Aus and then start building them over there when they took off. Problem is the car failed over there with low numbers....maybe they kept reading the forums and everyone said they would buy one but were talking rubbish.

The biggest issue I see with this as the dollar is 15-20c better on the US dollar then it was during the export program, profits will not be made.

Well in fairness they did kind of release the G8 right in the middle of the GFC and GM's financial woes, the car never stood a chance.

Agree with what you say re the exchange rate though. I don't see how Holden can make money on this deal unless the cars will be made in the US or *gasp* China.

One of GMs execs lives in Mornington and regularly has LHD vehicles parked in his driveway with the LHD warning plastered across the rear of the various models . Absolutely nothing new in this he's been doing it for the past few years and he lives off the Nepean highway.I often see them and chck to see what model but they invariably do not wear any badging.

They should never have badged it as a Pontiac (inc the Monaro export). It should have been a Chev from the start.

I know It's easy to bag Holden for their ways but this might just save the Commodore from the dust bin in a few years.

Hopefully Ford Aus can tie the next gen mustang platform in with the Falcon to save it as well.

They US press loved the G8, I reckon they would love a Falcon too!.

I agree... and hopefully... Ford might take notice of this Commodore to the states revival.

Speaking of LHD, there's a new SVT Raptor at product engineering. I'm hoping they are evaluating it for local sale, although unless they start making RHD versions it won't happen.

Not unless you want him to get fired.

Apart from display and evaluation, what could it possibly be here for? There's nothing to benchmark it against...unless its against the T6 Ranger Wildtrak??

Doubt it. I think I remember reading an article saying that F series and Mustang will be U.S and LHD market only.

Maybe your crew will be assessing the 6.2L for shits and giggles.... or product placement?

Don't know how you come to this conclusion. GMH is a branch off from GM USA.

Then we look at what parts are used in Aussie Fords. Are they all Aussie parts? NOPE. Some are imported from USA. So they must be bitsas too

Let's not try and lose sight of the fact... that all the wrap the Commodore has taken about it's viability. It's going back to the USA. Take note Ford.

Oarked next to a LHD Caprice last night in my local shopping centre. Presume it was one of the police versions. Some key points:

- plain white with a 'solid' set of alloys. not spoke but small scallops
- black door handles
- Omega spec interior
- Chevy badged
- completely undisguised
- looked kind of tuff actually, with the chevy front end
- rego was Victoria YCL685 if anyone wants to look it up

Was parked in Point Cook

Cheers,

Hally
