can u see into the crank case, becuase the sump will have to come off becuase 2 bolts which hold the timing case on are hidden by the sump, if my memory serves me right.

i cant see into the crank case because there isn't enough room to get your head in but i could put my finger in there and there was a cavity of sorts. am aware the sump needs to come off.
i was warned that if the crank case was cracked the sump needed also to come off.

man i hate fixing cars. why cant they just work and only need to be modded.

Least you can check your timing chain and guides etc, while its out and do a check over it

if i was you i would do it, becuase you put i all back together drive off, month later it snaps, then out comes engine agian

if i could take back time, ( i wish ) i would of done the chain on mine, but wont make the same mistake with the other engine i get

i priced a timing chain and guides for my vct a few weeks ago, if i remember correctly, the chain is only about $30, only one chain guide is available the other is obsolete through Ford, perhaps it does`nt wear and is rarely needed , not sure on that one, anyway the spares guy sent me to autopro , they sell the timing chain and guides(both) for $130, i would maybe see if bursons or repco do a kit , it may be cheaper.
