Is that third party insurance charge what it appears to be - ie, third party property insurance? If so, there isn't much difference between NSW and Victoria as we have to purchase this seperately. Or is this just the same thing as our TAC charge, which correct me if I'm wrong, is kinda like public liabiltiy insurance. It definitely doesn't cover property anyway.

The Third Party Insurance (called a "Green Slip") is the compulsory insurance needed to register a car, it is insurance for damage you cause to other people. I guess it is a little like public liability insurance.

In NSW it has just gone up again, but some of the companies haven't got their pricing right on the online quote system.

I did a quote on a greenslip comparison site and got prices from $335 to $670 for the same policy!

Just one of those things you have to live with I guess. Even if registration cost $3000 a year I would still pay it, I highly value my independence and freedom.

In the ACT the government choose the NRMA for compulsory third party. We don't get a choice. NRMA can charge what they like, and we have to pay it.

I can't see why yours would be different? I thought they were standard across the board ..... unless they have put them up slightly? The one I noted is due in Sept for the Landau and also Eastern Suburbs.

Right, so its the same as Victorias TAC charge. So after having paid registration in NSW, ACT, QLD, which is getting close to double what we pay in Victoria, you will also need to purchase insurance to cover property damage. True?

My mistake. I’d say that they’ve gone up a bit… probably the CPI rise. The BA was paid mid June.

Cheers

I'm a Queenslander and only drive my car a few times per month or for unavoidable reasons. It's a V8, so what am I paying for? Maybe some bitumen destroying burnouts are in order to get my moneys worth?

Yeah, once the car is on the road, the only further insurance one should get is third party or comprehensive.

I would say they just creep them up so no one really notices ..... I dont think I would.

Feel sorry for the other states. NSW have to get a pink slip every year as well. I dont think a petition will help but at least it makes you feel you are doing something!

Dear All,

Below is a link to the petition to stop the increase of Car Rego in QLD by another $250 extra a year! This only takes a minute to do.

Please forward this onto every Queenslander you know. If this legislation goes ahead, we will pay in excess of $800 a year for rego - When Victorians pay less than $200 all up!

Thanks

Help me Obi-wan Kenobi.......you are my only hope....
This has been going around for awhile now. All to little to late as the price went up 1st July 09.
Thinking of doing a run to the ACT (have an addrees I can use) rego there is $704.25.

the only way to make them lower the rego is to get public on side and let the polly`s see it will hurt them next election if they don`t make some changes, partitions don`t get much press ....i would`nt hold my breath.

I just signed up but I have this feeling it will do little but at least we voice our opinions. This is a debacle, first we lose the fuel subsidy and now a hike in the registration. I thought the reason QLD had higher rego fees was because we had the fuel subsidy, we don't have it any more why bump them up.

This is just the beginning of the sting that will hit QLD wallets, price increases of 10%-20% in fuel, rego and power will guarantee that businesses will have to pass this on to us the customers, so expect inflation to go nuts this financial year. Oh yeah, did I mention the possibility of at leaset one interest rate hike before year end, merry Christmas . :togo:

Election promises;-
Bligh: (with smirk) there will be no increases in taxes, the fuel subsidy will stay blah, blah, blah
Beattie: (with toothy grin) there will be no increases in electricity charges after supply is privatised, blah blah, blah

I can't understand why people keep voting for these lying swine.

I’d say because you’re up in Shepp. The lower TAC charge may be because of less claims in regional areas.

It should be noted that the current petition has been launched by somebody claiming that pensioners are suffering added hardship due to the 20% rise in the latest renewal costs, meaning they may be forced to major centres to use already overcrowded public transport.
I dunno where the hell Flappist copy and paste from but that argument seems a bit old.
Interesting to note that there has only been 2 (including this current 1) petitions submitted on that website in the last couple of years regarding renewal costs, with 1 recieving a good hit of over 100k e-signs. Alas no reply to it.
Are other petitons that do the rounds on the net actually submitted to parliament ???

A no win situation as when this state govco does go the legacy will stay , I have one street rego and 3 club rego cars as well as a couple of bikes.. any one want to pay that for me each year ?
I expect the ratio of unregistered drivers/cars to exponentially increase by a mozza over the next few months...
Yet some how it wont be blights fault but yours or mine or the past member for Bennilong...
with any luck blight will trip over her lies shortly and dissapear

Another grab by the QLD govt - You had a speeding fine lately?

If you're done by a camera and the car is registered as a business, the fine used to be double what it was for a privetly owned car, now its Five times.

I know someone who got a red light camera fine. Was $1,500 for the company!

They nominated themselves instead and it was reduced to $300.

I thought when GST was introduced all these other little taxes and duty were to be abolished but I see everyone is still paying them on their rego's etc.
I'd call it double dipping from the government.
Something should be done about it...........yes! but what they have us by the short and curlies again
