Thanks Bourney, he uses protein (bloody expensive isn't it) but I've gone with the paring knife for his chef duties. I'll be giving it to him todya I hope.

please explain to me why u think protein doesnt work????????
if taken properly and training properly 4+ times a week it cant NOT work!!!!!

Money well spent!
I gave the young fella the knife today. We were in the gym so I did it discreetly.
One of the trainers we both know was there too. As soon as he saw the box his eyes grew large and his jaw dropped. He knew what it was from the brand name on the box and when he tried to open it his hands were trembling. This 6'2", 95kg bull strong young fella was shaking he was so excited - fancy that!

He was absolutely blown away with it. I was thrilled with his response. It's so great to see a young fella who sincerely and honestly appreciates a gift received.

Later on in my weights session, after he'd gone, I had other members coming up to me telling me how happy he was with the knife - he'd gone around showing the people we know in the gym what he'd received.

Makes you want to do it every day. Thanks very very much folks for all the suggestions - I'm so glad I did this and you guys helped me make a great choice. Colleen - well done.

That was real highlight for me.

Jeff glad to hear he liked it. It is a gift that really will last a lifetime. Whether he chooses to keep going on his way to becoming a chef or not, a knife always comes in handy.

reliable, all terrain. $6.50 from the op shop for me. still got em.
Wore em as a transexual stripper to a mates porn themed party, went down great.

true that if you train and EAT properly sure protein can help. but unless you're doing those 2 things first what is the point? and if u ARE doing those 2 things properly, chances are you dont really need to use protein powder.

just my 2c. i never claimed it was gospel and i never claimed to have the answers to body building. just my thoughts

Lifting weights puts little tears in the muscle, the body uses protein to repair it. How can taking a protein suppliment not work?

Forgot that he was an apprentice chef till Geez Louise mentioned it.
What better gift for a chef than some quality knives!!!
Years from now, he will still treasure the gift of knives and i'm sure they will be the centerpiece of his collection!

You can eat too much protein... the body can only absorb and digest so much protein in any one sitting (30-50g), excess protein gets pooped out, and can also place a strain on the kidneys..
If you're getting 1.5-2G of protein per KG of body weight, train naturally and spread that amount over 5-6 meals you're getting plenty of protein, excess in the form of powder is just a waste of money, in fact in all the years of training and competing i rarely used protein powder, i preferred lean meats and egg whites.

Arh, the good old debate on just how much protien is to much, this can open a can of worm's.
Some believe even 1.5-2 g per kilo is to much, and some believe this is the norm, I personally have found what work's for me and this is the key for anyone contemplating weight training. you have to play with your diet and find what work's best for your body.
Protien is an very essiential nutruient in the body to help repair and build muscle mass when exercised, and yes to much is excreted out as urine not faeces, and places alot of strain on the kidneys,, and it is also converted to and stored as fat if used excesively and the user is not active enough.

That is a good point, ultimately you need to work with what works for your body, there are good general principles that can guide you, but as far as diet goes, and the effect each kind of food has on you well you need to experiment.
