Haven't given up anything as yet but have turned our Dobermans into a puppy factory, may as well do something useful instead of barking at wind rustling in the trees. Nice little earner.

Havent given anything up yet, probably just leaning towards hanging out at home with a six pack or two as opposed to ****ing $200 up against a wall in the city.

I hear petrol prices now having a greater impact on people's finances than an upward shift in interest rates.

i drive like a granny...try and use as little revs as possible everywhere...
getting 10.9-11.0 L/100k's
then the next step is cutting out pointless cruises and eating less

I started a new job back in March which does not give me a car spot at work... so I tram it in... loving every minute of it too... i'm now reading, listening to podcasts, doing crosswords and sudoku. It's brillant. $5.50 to and from work each day.

It's about $100 a month, but hey, i'd spend $60 a week in petrol doing that same 7km journey in peak hour and then another $45 a week in parking... so I figure i'm ahead.

I am trying to use gears 2 - 6 a bit more and find this is great especially when driving on the freeway as the car seems to use less fuel (I can now get almost 300 ks to a tank) :nutsycuck

I spent about $180 on petrol last week. I am driving more now than ever. Just got a GF and i live outta town. Bout 16km round trip to work and home each day. Which i do 7 days a week and on at least 3 of those i go in and out twice. I used $90 last week in the XF and about that in the guzzler XY. Seriously thinkin bout gettin a new bike to ride to work on the days i don't have to stay in town. Before i got my license i used to ride it for my part time job. The old pushy is now buggered from sittin but. I also don't put my foot down in the XF any more, different story in the XY, thats why i bought the thing. Have even had thoughts of sellin it and the XF and just buying like a nice economical ED 5litre XR8 and using the rest along with my savings to get a house. But that would be the smart thing to do. I love the XY too much :hihi: .

As another Guzzling XY owner, let me just say Dont do it!
I haven't spent sfa on fuel in the last month and a bit, mainly cos the XY is minus its driveline from the box back, and will be for another couple of weeks... However, I have *no* intention of letting the petrol prices affect my usage of it when its back on the road. I do use public transport to commute though.

No i will start rising a bike first to work and back. Theres no way i'd go through with selling it. I worked 7days a week for about two years to buy her. And now ive gotta work 6days a week to keep the two cars on the road with rego, insurance, fuel. arrrrgh!

OK time for some maths:

Say I have want 50 litres worth of fuel.

To fill her up at $1.10 a litre that = $55.00
To fill her up at $1.38 a litre that = $69.00

That is a MASSIVE $14.00 extra!!

sleep: (Plus most Average Joes don't use 50 litres a week so it would be less than $14 extra a week.)

How can that shocking amount of money financially cripple you all of a sudden like some people in the media are saying!?

People and moan and complain about petrol prices but glady pay $7 for a scotch and coke in some nightclub that they paid $10 to get into anyway!! Jeez, get over it. Wait until you start having to pay closer to $1.90 and $2 before making changes in your lifestyle!

I can think of one thing people can give up to "afford" fuel: SMOKING!!!

When i got my license three year ago it was more like $0.9/L for optimax, compared to $1.4/L it is now. I use about 50-60litres a week.

@ $0.9/L x 55L = $49.50
@ $1.4/L x 55L = $77.00

Thats almost $30 a week and when your on the wages somebody my age is tryin to make a break and save for a house loan that really adds up. Thats like taking an extra 10% out of my wages. I don't hardly drink and if i do its at home or at a mates place. I'm not arguing with you as the prices are still bareable, it just s me to death that the people of Australia always loose and the government gets ahead form evrything they can. They are too smart and too arrogant for there own good.

If i do a trip to brissy from rockhampton and back in the XF which is good on the highway its gona cost an extra $100+. It really adds up.

All the more argument for LPG...

$0.39 x 50L = $19.50/week
$1.38 x 50L = $69.00/week

$19.50 x 52 = $1,014/year
$69.00 x 52 = $3,588/year

$2,574 difference at 50L per week... the more you drive, the wider the gap becomes. At current prices, cost me 85 bucks to fill up my car, if it was on gas, 23 bucks. Huge difference, and running an economical 2.0 4cyl is hurting me alot (very very low income). I'll be converting to gas as soon as I can.

Ah yes, but 3 years ago I bet you were getting paid less than you are now.

Wages tend to creep up a bit year by year and so does everything else. :(

When I started my apprenticeship a can of Coke from the machine was $1.40, now it is $1.60..

Havn't yet given up anything yet, but I have to fuel 2 cars;

Laser -- Only drive weekends as the girlfriend doesn't have her license and lives 50 mins from me so around $15

XR8 -- Drive weekdays, usually spend ~ $30 a week if I just go to work and back.

If it goes much higher I'll be in the . Maybe I should let the XR8 go and get a AWD Turbo Laser !

Thats why i put a ? Youve got a Pintara right which at my estimate would be worth 3-4$k at the most and it would cost about $2k? to convert. Iwould just put that towards your next car.

$2k? Heh, not going for brand new. Second hand parts + fitting alot of the system myself... I'm not stupid enough to spend $2000 on a car I payed $3600 for...
