Performance wise the LS1 is superior to the windsor. The VX has a higher rev ceiling plus 6spd manual. It's also more frugal IMO.

I nearly bought one of those, in the looks department the VY SS is the pick IMO. A mate has a VY clubbie and its quick to say the least.

This wasn't a thread asking for narrow minded drivel so how about you refrain from spilling it.

Some of the gys at LS1.com.au are doing quite well with VT series commodes on the track, it would pay to go over there and do a bit of reading.
That series of commode does tend to rely on it's tyres from handling rather than suspension but they still get the results. We have a s1 VT exec with a 6 pack and it is quite an enjoyable car to drive so I can see the attraction of one with a decent motor.

Well, as of Tuesday my dad and I will be the owners of a Silver 2002 VX SS Commodore, lowered with tinted windows

I took it for a spin, gave it a boot full up to 75Km/h in a 60 zone and oh, what’s that white car right on my bumper.........its a fully marked highway patrol car. Ooops! So he followed me for a few minutes then buggered off. We bought the car from Holden in Blacktown and we'll pick it up Tuesday. The thing is so quiet so dad says, "well, we'll have to fix that". My dad is having a mid-life crisis at LONG LAST!!!!!!!

As its a 2002 model and it has 86,000Km on the clock we got it down from $25,000 to $22,000.

AUs didn't have IRS did they. wasn't that introduced on the BA?

Yes they did not all models, repairers say the rear end on the AU is the best Ford have made better than BA, BF.
And from 1st hand experience my BF rear end has needed a new cradle at 20,000 klm.

A few friends of mine drive them, and they go like stink with a couple of mods!

I have owned more then one the first being an SS ute, no mods 7000k...engine failure. Second engine in ute on warranty...all good for first 2000k then all of a sudden 1 litre of oil gone and approximately every 2000k after that. Told by Holden dealership that it was the Mobil 1 I was using and should move to a mineral based oil. Sold ute. Purchased 2002 Monaro, cracked head, later revealed to be cast defect. Head replaced on warranty. At 30000k service compression was down and it was found number 5 cylinder was more oval than cylindrical. So yes you could say I have owned a couple and since then I have purchased an BA flogged the living shit out of it and not had a drama. Yes I could have been unlucky but in these days of mass produced close toleranced engine production I don't believe luck should play a part.

Most of the engine issues were in the VTII's anyway so the VX is a better start for sure. But in saying that there is a fine VTII SS getting around here

Im still coming to terms with spending over 20k on something that your going to use as a track car.......stripping out the interior..........etc...........crazy I reckon!

Personally I would have bought cheaper and spent some time building something up - rather than buy big then tear it down. The satisfaction of taking something round the track you've had your hands dirty on will well outweigh just going and buying one.

Then again - both are gonna be fun. Good luck.

Well, the car is a long way from where we want it to be. We could have had a quicker car for less than $20,000 and it would be ready to go, but we didn’t want that. We want to build it up slowly our selves, and it'll be a good Father/son bonding thing.
