Suprised the damage was only 3.5 k, looks a bit more substantial in the pic, and he holed the sump as well. Dry sump I assume but would still hold some oil. I'm suprised either the taillight or rear bumper he needs wouldn't be 3.5 k on their own.

where does it say the repair bill is only 3.5k? its the insurance for 6 months that cost 3.5k...

even if the correct term was used, i doubt it would be correct
the damage suggests to me that the impact speed was fairly low
if he was driving like an idiot (especially if he hit black ice), i assume the damage would be considerably more - or he was desperately unlucky that he slid for so long and only just collected the fence post

He is a truck driver. He probably has more driving experience then most people here.
He may of been driving stupid, but there is a good chance he was driving sensibly and just had a lapse in judgment coupled with a bit of bad luck.

Look on youtube for videos of cars driving in snowing conditions in the US. They take a corner at 10mph, lose control and crash into every other car on the street.
