Small engine working hard versus larger engine being lazy, majority of people that are actually going to put these things to work be it on the worksite or towing a heavy van/boat won’t even look at the 2L once the 3L is available with the A10.

Based on future towing and resale I’ll be going 3L.

Thank you and from what I understand, a lot of the Ranger stock that arrives in Australia
is already sold and until recently, Ford was scratching to get enough production to cover
orders. So this idea of excess inventory laying around is not an issue and won’t be.

And the price rise on new Ranger will probably make PX3 look like a discount anyway.

These small motors are fine with multi speed autos behind them but where there achilles heel is if you prefer a manual and you get caught in the wrong gear or you want to shoot a gap quickly .....there aint nothing happening under 1500rpm and they stall real easy

Theres no replacement for displacement

I don’t recall a manual transmission option for the Ranger 2.0 diesel, has that changed?

Having driven a Bi-Turbo XLT at work a fair bit recently it’s an excellent car, the. A10 is good but not flawless, if you catch it in the wrong gear (which seems like a ridiculous concept given how many there are!) and don’t give it enough throttle to drop down it reminds you that it’s a small capacity engine pretty quickly.

I’ve not driven a 3.2 so can’t really give a fair comparison in that respect.

All power to those that want the 2L it’s a good thing, my neighbour just bought one in a Wildtrak and it will do everything he wants of it with ease.

Does the bi turbo come in manual? How does it drive?
Not that I'd ever consider one as all diesels are terrible in manual.

Our staff drive automatic Tritons, the lag off the mark is quite surprising
but I don’t think that’s the case with the 2.0 manual in Transit but that’s a single scroll…….
Point is that the Twin Scroll approximates a small and big turbo in one, meaning virtually no lag down low like Triton POS that neatly killed me crossing a busy intersection, I hit the throttle and the thing took what felt like two seconds to get going…..,

I read that ford doesn't have an official order system open for the new ranger yet, but dealers are taking deposits. Do the dealers just transfer their informal list on to the Ford system when it opens up etc?. Do those early adopters just pay whatever the market price that that dealer sets? Or are people saying deposit down, with contract condition's such as . wildtrak V6 is < than $75k DA for example?

Yes this is how it works. Yes just pay a deposit subject to final price.

umm my Maths says the old 3.2 5 cylinder had more displacement than the new V6 3.0. so we shouldn't buy it because of the old adage you are using?

either way its been taken out of the line up so hopefully these silly arguments will dry up.

I'm picking the 3.0V6 will cost more, so people will still buy the 2.0

I don't know why anyone would pick the manual over the 10 speed Auto so wouldn't be surprised if its not offered

Correct fleet and governments will still pick up the 2.0 as it will be cheaper to buy an more fuel efficient.

There will still be a need for 2.0 Bi turbo especially on XLT for these reasons. Wildtrak probably not.

Bi turbo has never come in manual.

The only manual on offer will be the base Eco Blue single turbo 2.0. It will also be offered with a 6 speed auto.

After doing a google search you are correct. The X class could do it too. As far as I can see only the Amarok and new Ranger will be able to fit it, with the X class being no longer available. The current Amarok is the only one available right now that can do it.

Thats right, my dealer took a deposit and its Pending price. Ive said Sports Diesel is my chosen model (in Meteor Grey) but if Wildtrack isnt hugely more expensive I'll go that way.

It will be interesting to see where they will position the Sports model in the range. Between XLT and Wildtrak? Or will it be positioned below, or equal to XLT?

Mate, I asked exactly that to the salesman. He THINKS it will be in between xlt and wildtraxk, and I tend to agree… but will definitely be interesting to see what the actual deal is when more info is released. In my case I’ve told them by looking at details on ford au website the sports sounds right for me, but I’d Jump to Wildtrack if the price difference isn’t to obscene.

My ideal budget is no more than $75k on the road, with some room to move up of I think it’s worthwhile.

Looks like you get leather seats on the sports whereas XLT still with the cloth

Sport is in between XLT & Wildtrak.

Wildtrak is still king of the mountain, gets the bigger screen, black hood-lining, sailplane / rear cover.

It also looks as tho Wildtrak gets a tech pack option, and a 20 inch wheel option (even tho neither have been discussed) some pre production cars have a dot matrix LED headlight setup and some have a 20 inch wheel option. I actually thought we might get a "limited" spec too which included the above 2 options but it seems as tho its just a Wildtrak with some packs. Neither have been discussed by Ford yet but I have put them on our orders anyways.

I think my favorite feature of the new model is the cup holders on either side under the air vents. Hilux's have had them for the last 10+ years and they are awesome because your drink stays cool with the AC blowing on it!

Whatever it is, that lag is a dealbreaker for me, let alone the uncomfortable seating and A pillar proximity.

Are you talking about the pre-update or last of the models?

I had my heart set on a Triton but after driving it I went a little cold on it for a number of reasons. The dealer was also a Holden dealer so had a drive of the updated Colorado and bought it.

At the time we only had the pre-update model Colorados at work and I will admit I hated them but when the updated ones came through they were like a different car truck or whatever you want to call them.
