Also curious, how many are being temp checks (gun) as they go to work? We have it daily at the gate and I find it odd the local schools dont do the same?

Its hardly invasive and a good temp gun isnt that expensive. Schools could then record counts of over temps and report back? You would have to be understanding that its flu season by atleast its some kind of lead indicator.

At work (on board ship) all crew gets tested twice daily, anybody who wants to come on board during a port call gets tested before they come up the gangway.....anyone who refuses does not come on board and has to deal with the consequences of that, if an employee then they will be joining the legions of the unemployed fairly quickly.....

Yeap, we have visitors by GM approval only and must be "business critical".

Yep we've had it for a couple of months now. With stage 4 we also need country head approval.
Just before stage 4 was announced, we were asked whether we preferred to spend one day collecting our personal belongings or have the cleaners pack it for us. But now, both options are off the table.

Good call, I went to the doctors recently and the (I think Uni Student) medic looked like he had been closely watching gun draws on TV and he enjoyed testing my temp way too much

I agree. Whats the alternative?

In a screened booth with their RN credentials on display, and in a situation where temperature checking was perhaps needed, I’d have no problem with that.

It's probably pointless looking at countries that have done very little testing, so here are the 47 countries that have tested over 10% of their total population (not adult population as per the previous chart).

Two countries, Luxembourg and Monaco have tested more than 95% of their population and while that 'should' be a good indicator of what the number should be the results are so widely different (87 and 316) as to allow no realistic conclusion.

Have to say, driving to and from work yesterday and today, there was absolutely no change in traffic volume whatsoever. Even businesses around my work, that I would consider as non-essential, were open and fully functioning with maximum staff numbers.

I think they have granted anyone and everyone who applied for a permit to stay open, a permit. Over the next couple of weeks, they will start issuing fines for the ones that falsely applied for a permit. The fine is close to $20'000 for an individual, and almost $100'000 for a business.

A much lower 382 new cases for Australia and 11 deaths sees the CMR rise to 1.312% and active cases rise to 8,859. NSW recorded 11; SA recorded 2 with the balance in Victoria. Australia also passed the 20k case mark.

No new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.402% and active cases remain at 23.

The UK recorded 871 new cases and 98 deaths yesterday so the CMR drops to 15.052%.

Just over 58k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,203 deaths sees CMR down to 3.235% and active cases at 45.6% with the raw numbers rising. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Mexico passes 50k deaths;
Russia completes 30M and France 4M tests;
Asia records a new high for daily cases with 88,975;

Lebanon (279), Libya (404), Poland (809), Venezuela (981), Costa Rica (1,011), Ukraine (1,453), Iraq (3,461) and Argentina (7,513) recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

With regards to Costa Rica high number.... from yesterday, they adopted a new case count method... If a person is ill and tests Covid positive, anyone residing in the same household (regardless of illness) is also deemed positive.
This has virtually doubled our new case numbers overnight.
Really makes one question what the REAL numbers are worldwide?

That's a little nuts even by Pura Vida standards. Perhaps they can just start testing some more people to gauge where they are really at?

The 18 deaths represent Costa Rica’s deadliest day during the coronavirus crisis. For reference, Costa Rica confirmed 23 total deaths due to respiratory viruses in all of 2018, according to the Health Ministry.
“Let’s not look at this as just statistics,” said Health Minister Daniel Salas. “They are people — people who three months ago were watching these press conferences and are no longer with us. That hurts.”
The Health Ministry has confirmed 22,081 cumulative known coronavirus cases. This represents 1,011 more cases compared to Thursday. Of these, 496 people resulted positive via a PCR test over the past 24 hours.

For the first time, the amount of new cases includes people who were not tested for the coronavirus. Rather, Friday’s figure sums 515 people who, since August 2, have begun exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and live with someone who has tested positive.

“If another person within the same family circle starts showing symptoms, it’s almost 100% certain that they have COVID. It’s a matter of practicality,” Salas has explained.
Friday, 229 more people were classified by health authorities as recovered. Costa Rica has 14,596 known active cases and 7,267 recoveries.

Sorry... that was quoted from Tico Times News...
I think more to the point, with the above example, is just WHAT the true World picture is?
Costa Rica is definitely not 3rd world, has been extremely transparent & pro-active through this whole thing (totally unlike our northern, and to a lesser extent, southern neighbors!)
I’d suggest a huge percentage of the world’s statistics are utter BS, and submitted to “save face”
Vietnam a classic example.
Gunna hurt big time, for a bloody long time regardless!

I'm more interested in what happens in 2025 when the economic position of the country still sucks and there's huge unemployment, we had dramas with crime in parts of Melbourne before, it's going to kick into overdrive.

Or our ever worsening relationship with China - are we heading towards war?

Here's today's story of self-sacrifice for the public good:

https://www.theage.com.au/national/v...07-p55jmg.html

"In recent weeks, the Mount Buller community has been abuzz with stories of Melburnians sneaking into the village late at night, some even chartering a helicopter to a base near the resort, in defiance of travel bans and the lockdown."

total fquits

Edit: "One woman, who had contracted COVID-19 during a ski holiday to Aspen in March and refused to isolate on her return to Melbourne, was recently confronted on Mount Buller about her behaviour.

The rumours caused tensions with long-term residents and business owners, but most were reluctant to notify authorities and potentially jeopardise their lifestyles and livelihoods.

On July 28, Mount Buller Racing Club urged its members to contact police."

I dont wanna get political at all, but what a poor, poor, poor decision. Even if made by the other side it would be terrible. Unbelievable.

Most of the village is owned by Melbournites. They have been catching some of them down in Mansfield. They are the ones who skipped town before the Melb lockdown. I see a few around Beechworth who shouldn't be there.
