Used to love that avgas smell.
Was only around it for a year or 2, a friends Torana ran it, good times.

That's about 1.70/L in today's money.

Considering everything you are driving today is better on fuel than back then (let alone safety and performance), I think it's a no brainer that we're much better off today.

Our local BP used to sell it, locked pump out the back. I remember getting some funny looks from a cop paying for his fuel, when the attendant, at the top of his voice, said 'You want the avgas key?'

I remember the servo on the corner of Marmion and Nothlake road Melville used to sell Avgas back in the day.

As a kid I used to love the smell of Super and Standard petrol ( no I wasnt inhaling it out of a coke bottle ), just the smell when you were filling up.

I remember they used to have attendants and you didnt get out of your car, paid cash and off you went, they used to have a Kerosene bowser at the AMPOL not far from where I grew up, remember them having a White V6 GT Capri on the single post hoist, I think it was the owners toy.

well you'd b loody well expect so just 40+yrs onwards lol.......
The biggest diff is the "freedom" or lets say less regulation the world we lived in back then but its progress as one says, yer progress my b utt re many things.
That $1.70L left you feeling less ripped than the better world today

yer too funny re the avgas Rallye.
We used to hit the shell refinary at Granville, fill up a 20l drum and away we went elsewhere for some street runs.
Gawd I luved the fumes and smell prktkljokr - speedway was one of the big go to's back then as well, oh that smell and aura.
80's was huge in my 20's funfunfun glad I survived it.

The best part was the servo garages were quite profitable giving you good driveway service in those days, these days you do it all yourself and being ripped off with fuel pricing.

Yep, the oil companies have truly stooged everyone.
