Default LZ Focus Manual - Fuel Economy

For what it is worth, I did a round trip today from the northern suburbs of Melbourne to Ballarat, some 250 km in all.

These days several stretches of the Ring Road are a fair substitute for city traffic!

Anyway, the average mileage was 5.5 litres/100km.

One well-padded passenger on board.

Fuel is BP Ultimate. Oil is Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5w-30.

I ran my Focus from Sydney to Sale in VIC!

Won some parts for my XE spac very cheaply, so justified the drive there.
Stayed the night and had a pub meal, was a good trip, and an awesome haul.

1 x tank, either way, which considering my lead feet.....

I'd forgotten how quick these little gems are on the open road.

Great car, still, but I only drive it once in a blue moon....

Great to hear ms jam, these really are great cars, we have had ours for just on 1 year now, has 25,000 on the clock already and returns fantastic fuel economy running the same fuel and same engine oil as yours, its a shame i don't see too many of them on the roads still

Yes indeed.

Give them some toe at speed and they really, really move.

Yeah, small capacity turbo engines give you the best of both worlds i.e. Great torque and pretty good fuel economy. When i had the I used to get low 8's in the ST, even with some spirited driving. Also used BP ultimate in the ST.

I've had mine for 14 months and over the past 12 months, I've averaged 9.99L/100km, mainly heavy city driving and it'a an auto. The car has now done 16,300km.

Here are some fuel stats over the 14 months period:

91RON 10.14L/100km
E10 10.02L/100km
95RON 9.77L/100km
98RON 9.88L/100km

City 10.08L/100km
Mix 9.32L/100km (City/Highway, but on highway car can use up as little as 5.5L/100km)

My stats also indicate that total cost to run the car per month is $137.65. (Fuel, service, registration and CTP only.)

Im just about to hit 15,000km on my LZ sport manual.. I mostly do Hwy trips.. I bought my lil Henrietta the last week of october 2016..
my weekly kms are anywhere between 600-800km per week.
Im usually sitting on 6.6 on the hwy and last time I looked with a little weight on my right foot through traffic I was getting 8.9..but coming from a V8 and a 4.0l jeep wrangler this is nothing.. I drove from blackwater in CQ to Kyogle in northern NSW for $70.. just before christmas.. last time I did the same trip in the TJ it cost me $250 just to get there and the BF V8 cost me about $160.. so you can see how Im not too fussed if my LZ might seem high compared to others...I only use premium in all vehicles..

So what does the trip computer say your average fuel consumption is, buying one of these Wednesday next week , a manual trend couldnt stretch the $ to a sport.

A manual Trend will do quite well. I will get around 10L/100km in city driving but mostly, it's in the 9.7-9.9 range, and that's in an auto. You will get better figures, possibly as low at 8s in a manual. Out on the highway, both the manual and auto sip as much as 6.6 average.

I bought a Trend on the grounds that its value proposition was hard to beat.

I was tempted by the Sport, especially the 17-inch wheels, but the extra money was hard to justify from my point of view at that time.

I was in a position where I was forced to a fast purchase that I was not anticipating. My excellent little Fiesta had been wiped out while stationary at traffic lights - by a Triton driven by a 17-year old (the vehicle was in the name of his mum).

Ms_Jam, the focus would be a much better drive and a step up from the Fiesta.

You were lucky to get out of a write off without any injuries.

Yes. The Fiesta was crunched right up to the back seat.

Its strong little chassis saved me, I suspect.

I generally get mid to high 8s in my manual Trend when just used for stop-start (M5 Motorway) trips to work.

I've never reset trip meter 2 so that would give a good indication of my usage over the past year (a couple of weeks off, nearly done 14000 km)

Sadly can't go and check for you though as the poor girl is currently sitting in a smash repairs waiting for a new rear hatch and bumper after being reversed into by a semi in the work carpark.

I wonder how the service is going to work as it's due on the 9th of Feb but can't book it in yet as I'm not sure of the exact date I'll be getting it back.
