Default Nulon lifter free and tune up

Does anyone know what this does to your engine oil to make things quieter?

It claims it doesn't alter the viscosity, so how does it work? What does it actually do?

If I don't put a bottle of this in my 5.4L 3v, it is noisey as buggery, mostly coming from the phasers (I think). After a bottle, it quietens it down by about 20%. This is on both 5w20 and 5w30 oil

Probably cleans the sludge or deposits off the moving parts.

If its sludge related, I wonder if an oil flush before you change the engine oil would help in this situation?

I have used it for the last 3 oil changes, so I don't think it's sludge. Otherwise it would have been "fixed" after the first couple of changes?
