Default How to fix rattle in centre air vent?

My centre LHS air vent has started to rattle. My AU2 has 104,000km and this pain in the neck problem has just started. If I press on the vent with my hand it will stop. Is this a common problem and are the vents easy to remove?

Unfortunatley the AU Falcon just seems to be plagued with rattles, I have one coming from somewhere down low near the front passenger's door/footwell. It is an annoying crack sound when going over a sharp bump or hard accelaration from rest. Anyone had this issue? :

Greetings fellow AU kinko's,

My AUII developed this problem after the facia around the radio/vents was replaced under warranty.....

....it is a naasty problem, especially (as previously mentioned) when the AC is blowing on you in the middle of summer.....

What I did to fix it was to get a can of Wynn's SILICONE LUBE spray and carefully sprayed it (using little pipe attachment) into where the actual vent rotates in the dash.....

Be frugal in application and everything will remain neat and tidy (no bits of dust and crud sticking on the vent if the lube is plastered everywhere....

Just out of interest, when you take a car back for warranty work to fix squeaks and rattles, this is what the dealer mules do, nothing technical like pulling apart dashboards, they just gum up the problem with Silicone lube...

I did mine some time ago and the problem went straight away and hasn't come back.

I used a bit of Blue tack and I don't move them around much. Stopped the noise.
I like the sound of Soothsayer's fix.

I have 2 Au's, both with these rattles. I also have a can of CRC silicone spray in the shed!!!!

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

mine started getting a hissing noise coming out of the left passenger side vent just recently. I dont know what the problem is, and its not the stereo cos i turned it off and it still does it. I found that when i accelerate above 2000rpm it goes away.

with the car ideling look behind the glovebox for the noise, then seal the offending little plastic pipe. (might make your car idle smoother too)
