Default Minor mods to the ST...advice

Hiya all,

Not sure where to post this really. In the performance section, or here?

I've been involved in the VW mod scene for a while. Trying to transfer that knowledge across to what works well with these cars. Have a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with (I'm located in Sydney btw):

1. Tuners...what would be the reputable ones here? I've heard of Cobb. Anyone else? Any custom tuners here? My usual approach to GIAC, Viezu, Revo, etc. don't seem to do anything in this area.
2. Exhaust...I want that little bit of extra deep note without the drone and high pitch that comes from some systems. Count out anything non resonated. I'm too old! Would something as simple as a 3" DP do the job of deepening it? Any other systems that will give it more growl without having me sound like a young kid flooring his bashed up Skyline? Anyone running the Milltek resonated system here?

That's all really. I'm looking at springs, but I know H&R make some.

I do appreciate any info!

Con

re tuning.
Check out my post in the New Focus ST thread about factory warranted mods from Mountune. I know im waiting to see if they will come to OZ, im reluctant to tune my ST for fear of my warranty (Says he who had a tuned and modded XR5 Turbo )
COBB do have tunes yes, i also know of another company in the UK that has just developed tunes for their own ST and as it turns out he is in OZ atm with a tuning handset and is catching up with a few of us guys here (Me inc) but im still unsure.
I reckon i will do all hardware eventually then go from there.

Went for an SCT tune from unleashed 6 months ago myself, am quite happy, file downloads are available as they are developed but I am sure any reputable tuner will give good benefits whether here or OS. Considering exhaust but haven't heard any in the flesh, really think I want to hear it before considering.

If you hunt around, there are SCT tunes, COBB access port/SF tunes available for a fraction of the cost of local tuners.
The beauty about the customer service from OS, each of them will email you software updates and tunes for free.
A few things I don't understand. An SCT with multiple tunes and free tunes in the future is about $400 OS, buy the same SCT tuner here plus a single generic tune and you're looking at about $800. Surely local tuners are simply using OS tunes with small tweaks rather than trying to reinvent the wheel and charging accordingly?

Yeah i had generic tunes on my old car (XR5T) it was from a proven company in the UK, customer service was impeccable.

Rest of your post i agree entirely, and theres no way id go a custom tune on a car like this when the gains are proven with these handsets for a fraction of the price
