Default 2014 Focus RS 350hp?

Article in Auto Express outlining the upcoming (Hopefully) Focus RS.
Getting the power from the EB 4 is proving tough.

IMO i think Ford should use the Fiesta purely for the 3 door aspect.

Quote:
The next-generation Ford Focus RS will get a new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine when it arrives in 2014

Ford is set to up the ante on its next-generation Focus RS. Power is likely to come from a newly developed 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine – which could also power the 2015 Mustang – producing as much as 350bhp sent though a manual gearbox. That’s over 100bhp more than the new Focus ST and will drop the 0-60mph time below the magic five-second mark.

Ford’s European performance division, Team RS, has ruled out developing the 247bhp 2.0-litre EcoBoost from the new ST, as an increase in power would mean making the turbo bigger – and there’s a reluctance to do this.

“If it’s too big and capable of too much power, you lose bottom- end torque and response,” said Team RS powertrain engineering manager Len Urwin.

The RS will send power to the front wheels, as on the previous model. That made 300bhp from its five-cylinder turbo engine, but this time the RS could use a clever active limited slip differential – a so-called E-diff.

Said Unwin: “You could drop a mechanical diff in as we did with the old Focus RS, but an E-diff would take that a step forward in that you can really optimise traction in all situations.”

A manual is a certainty, but Ford is debating whether to also offer a dual-clutch auto version using its PowerShift technology. “There is a trend to go to dual clutch, but they are heavier,” said Chris Caven, calibration controls engineer at Team RS. “Whether we should have a manual and a PowerShift is still up for debate.”

With the price set to be around the same £25,000 mark as the last model, the stage is set for the new RS to humble performance cars costing twice its price when it arrives in early 2014.

Of course they could fit twin turbos of different sizes to ensure bottom end torque.

Fiesta would be lighter weight. Focus ST engine in a Fiesta?

Interesting idea, so the RS is certainly on? I wonder if it will come to Australia?

It's a pity it wasn't as cheap as 25,000 GBP (around AU$38,000) when it lands here :( The RS was close to double that over here was it not ?

Only 350 of them were made in RHD though right? Thats probably why, to cover the cost of compliance and conversion.

Yes, and they are outselling the Falcon 100 to 1.

The small and mid size Ford offerings have fantastic handling characteristics and tech features the Falcon could only dream of.

Oh, and the Mondeo has more room in every dimension than the Falcon.

The diesel does 6L/100km average, no wonder people are looking do "downsize" these days.

Now, back on topic......

Since I've been hanging around here when I got my Focus theres like 50 people who have got these cars since then, we're slowly growing in size.

Forgot that the UK was RHD as well

Well what a rip off then, why so expensive? There are a few odd things in our ADRs but not $30,000 odd for an already RHD car, its not too expensive to compliance a jap import, car is already RHD it just has to meet a few other things so why so expensive for a UK import?

I got a quote from VDC to convert a new F250 to RHD and compliance it for me when I wanted to bring one over, I could have the truck here for just under $40K for the trim I wanted.

Except VDC told me it had to be x engine, with x options or they can't do it, so the price went up of course.

Then they tell me, conversion and compliance will cost $40,000 ON TOP of the truck itself.....

I would highly doubt that the new RS will be coming in at 25k GBP, the ST3 sells for that so I would expect the RS to be similar to the Vauxhall OPC and Golf R at high 20s, low 30s.

I'd be surprised, considering the release date of the ST, if it arrives any earlier than mid 2014
