Default Estimated conversion time for CFI - MPFI?

Hey all,

just wondering with the single point to multipoint conversion for EAs, would anybody know how long they usually take to do? Provided you actually have a fair idea what you're doing.

Thinking of taking mine to a mechanic to do it since I dont know sh!t about cars under the bonnet but since he charges by the hour I just wanna guess the damage here.
I asked but he wasnt too sure till he actually got into the procedure.

Info appreciated!

Well providing that you have all the necessary parts, It took about 3hrs to do mine including cleaning and degreasing everything.

Its not that hard to do. Ive got a MPFI Conversion Document if you want me to send it to you.

Have you spoken to your mechanic about it yet?

Many mechanics aren't really interested in something like an MPI conversion from i've experienced. If he seems reluctant, tell him that you can give him instructions on exactly what's involved. ;)

Why would bother then. If your goin to give the mechanic instructions, and then pay him to do a job professionally, its not worth it. YOur best bet is to give it a go yourself, and if you have any problems, post them up on here and you'll get any needed help.

Well from what i've seen it all comes down to confidence...

Some people haven't had the experience in an engine bay to be confident enough to try it themselves. (i know the best way to get confidence is to do it yourself, but some people aren't interested in that).

From what i could gather, most mechanic's don't know how to do a MPI conversion on an EA (it's just that they won't admit it! :P), so if you give him instructions he will be more likely to be willing to do it ;)

I had vertually no confidence in an engine bay, but the cheapest quote i got to get it done was $400 so i tackled it with a mate, we knocked it over in about 8 hours but now i know what to do it would prob take about 3. Just follow the walkthrough on www.ford-tech.com exactly and you'll be fine.

yeah i've never had to do it.. but i think you should give it a go yourself. it could look hard but if you get a mate to help out and you've got instructions to follow it won't be as difficult as it seems. and you've always got the forums for support if anything goes wrong.

Yeah give it a go, it no harder then fitting a 4 speed auto to a 3 speed EA, ok so it should be easier, go for it.

Most mechanics were sick of EAs half way through 1988 letalone in 2005.

They'd rather be doing oil changes for $100.

being a mechanic my self.. id much rather do a head gasket, or oil changers for 90 odd.. than do a mpi conversion.. its just not worth the head aches.. 400 is cheap

Oky doky, lets see here

Providing that all the parts that are required are on hand, and no unforseen circumstances, im guessing all up, prolly looking at about 4 hours in labour.

Going rate for labour these days, lets average $80 ph. Theres $320 in labour alone. (Just guessing labour rate, they can range from 55-105)

Then you have shop supplies like gaskets and silicon, coolant, new fuel filter, air filter. Note that most mechanics probly wouldnt do the conversion if new fuel filters and the like ar put in. They like to cover all bases.

So all up, if you can get a machanic to do it, id say your looking at around $600 fitted.

Don't even bother getting a mechanic to do it. They will do something wrong and it won't go properly and end up causing you all sorts of headaches. Does anyone remember the name of the guy in Brissie who got a mechanit to do a MPI conversion? It cost over 2k in labour at the end of it. His name was Brent cant remember his username
